Greetings adventurers. I've got a quick question. What book would you reccommend, Complete Arcane or the Spell Compendium? oh the spellcasters in my party are a sorcerer and an assassin.

Spell Compendium, definetly. The PrC's in CA are good, but having ALL the spells from the supplements is golden. Get SC then save up for CA.

Seconded. I bring Spell Compendium with me to every game session, even if I'm not playing a spellcaster myself. It's just so useful having that many spells all in one book.

Thirded. It is far too versatile to go without if you are adding supplements. That said, CA is not a bad second choice after you own the Compendium.

Complete Arcane. Your casters can only know so many spells, the stuff in CA will give you better bang for your buck with this group.

im going to fifth the spell compendium. Complete arcane is cool if you plan to prestige, and has some cool feats. But that is about it. Spell compendium has all the spells from complete arcane, along with a whole bunch more.

I do not think it has all the spells from CA. The Spell Compendium is not a collection of all spells from previous books, it's a collection of spells from a large selection of those books (with quite a large amount being spells from the Forgotten Realms sourcebooks, in "non-FR" mode).

However, Spell Compendium is definitely the book to buy from those two. Your Cleric will also love you for it :)

If you just want spells, the obvious answer is Spell Compendium. However, if you want some other tricks I advise Complete Arcane (and Complete Mage for that matter).
