Complete Champion and the Osborne Effect [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-17-07, 08:57 AM For a while, I have been torn about buying the Complete Champion. I've heard both good and bad things about it. I was hoping to find a copy in a book store so I could read through it a bit and make up my mind.

Now, with the recent news (http://theminiaturespage.com/news/519193/), I figure what's the point? It seems (at least in my case) that the announcement of 4E has brought about a case of the Osborne Effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_Effect)*.

So, how does everyone else feel about this? Do you see many more 3.5 books getting purchased (without huge discounts) after 4E was announced? Are there any you still plan on buying?

*Granted, oddly enough, the Osborne Effect wasn't what actually caused the downfall of sales in Osborne Computer Corporation, but it's a famous enough story, and the name stuck.

08-17-07, 09:01 AM There's other reasons beyond the Osborne effect not to buy Complete Champion. Power Leap being the major reason (creep is too mild a word.)

08-17-07, 09:13 AM I figure people who decide to stick with 3.5 will be pleased with the Rules Compendium coming out. And there may be a lot of people who do that, at least for a while. (Because unlike computer systems, game versions keep working just fine over time.)

Finally, a supliment for the underpowered cleric!

I figure people who decide to stick with 3.5 will be pleased with the Rules Compendium coming out. And there may be a lot of people who do that, at least for a while. (Because unlike computer systems, game versions keep working just fine over time.)
Yeah, I did this for about a year-and-a-half with both 3E and 3.5. I started in 2E, so (without reading the books first), I couldn't comprehend a reason for 3E. I didn't realize the fundemental changes that they'd make. The reason I held off on 3.5 was more beacuse I felt I was being robbed. Granted, 3.5 is a definite improvement.

I'll probably relectantly switch over to 4E after I make the mistake of reading the new PHB in the bookstore. That, or I'll do it so I can stay up to date on the forums :P

What jumps to mind:
- Barbarian getting pounce at first level
- Wizards spontaneously casting all divination spells at the cost of a single bonus feat

I seem to recall there was also something of giving Clerics a number of smites at the cost of turn attempts on a 1-1 trade.

It's bad.
