Despite the samurai class -- :rolleyes: -- CW offers in the way of feats and other combat-themed rules. I'd go with that.

I'm still on the fence regarding the swashbuckler class.

09-06-04, 05:25 AM I think it depends on whice classes you are playing... I´m playing at the moment some fighter-types... so I bought the Complete Warrior, and I wasn´t disappointed about it.
But Im going to think about some kind of cleric, so one of my next buys will propably be the Complete Divine.

09-06-04, 08:26 AM The swashbuckler PrC was published in Dragon Magazine very early in 3e's run. It was later reprinted in Sword & Fist. It hasn't been missing at all. It's just been reworked to a base class.

09-06-04, 08:52 AM i like the Complete Warrior much more. Not that i'm a fan of fighting, but religion is very setting-specific, and I don't really care about divine books published in the core line.

09-06-04, 09:34 AM Just so you know, Complete Divine has little to do with specific religions. It's more of how to use Divine abilities/powers in any campaign setting. It is worth checking out (editing errors aside, it is a great sourcebook).

09-06-04, 10:07 AM i had a look already but it didn't convince me, to me, religion cannot be approached "in general", it has to have the flavour of the background.

I'd find a book about Islam or Christianism way more interesting in a gaming view than a book about "religion" in general.
But on the other hand, it's true that there are some material from Complete Divine I could easily use in the Realms or in Eberron, maybe i'm too narrow-minded on this matter.

Ah, but it isn't core. It's official, yes, but not core. If it isn't in the PHB, DMG, or MM then it isn't core.

Edit: I think you meant as a base class, not a core class.

09-06-04, 01:24 PM welll ok so not "core" yeah i mean base i just call them core no matter what, besides i wen tot the future and 4 ed rocked!!! twice the core classess and the books were even cheaper (20-25 vs 30-35) :D

I wish I could put aside those editing errors. I'm not much of a D&D rules expert (at least not compared to the others on these boards) but it seems that every time I use Complete Divine (e.g. to design an NPC) I find another mistake.

I prefer the prestige classes in Complete Warrior and the feats in Complete Divine. Complete Divine has a bit more "fluff" (dunno about you, but I consider deity stats to be fluff - its not as if the party are ever going to try killing one), which was my main gripe about Complete Warrior but there are those editing errors....

I'm just so glad I never spent any money on Tome and Blood and the other 3.0 books; that would have been a tragedy.

09-09-04, 10:14 AM As far as forums go, CW injects a lot more discussion & controversy with overpowered PrC(s). Namely, Frenzied Berserker.

CD doesn't offer anything nearly so one-dimensional, so one-dimensionally-powerful, so many-dimensionally-detrimental.

And that makes CW cool.

Also, CW has made the Fighter/PrC a much more attractive high level option.

CD can't do this either; cleric was already a powerful high level option.

The styles & content of both books are on the whole commendable. IMO

"Every chapter I stole from somewhere else."

It takes a keen eye indeed to spot any actual new material in that book.

I wouldn't go so far extreme to call that product "cool." At most, it is "decent," as long as I can ignore the Samurai character class (the same way I ignored the Rokugan content in my OA).

So far, I've found the CW more useful, because while not everybody prays, everybody fights.

Yep. That's what we need. "The Complete Christian." So, when's WOTC going to publish a book detailing the common religions of our world in the d20 setting? That would go over really well in the popular press... :)
