Thelandrach 03-28-05, 05:56 PM	They are the 3.5 rules equivalent of the older, soft-cover books. They have more stuff in them, and a lot of the information in the older books is translated to the 3.5 rules. If you're running a 3.0 campaign and the older books are working for you, you probably don't need to spend $120 to upgrade them.
Ogre4Hire 03-28-05, 06:34 PM	There are a lot of differences, however. First of all, some of the feats have been tweaked. For example, Power Critical. Previously, it allowed you to once/day declare an attack was an auto-threat if it hit. Now, it simply gives you a +4 on your threat conformation roll (no longer overpowered, it's instead rather sucky). Many PRCs have been revised, some a little, some a lot. The Bladesinger is now much more potent, the Fatespinner's been remade into a 5 level PRC, ect. They also changed some of the weapons around, particularly the overpowered ones in Sword & Fist (though most of them had already been revised in Arms & Equipment). Finally, they contain 3 new base classes each (some are good, others not so much). As Thelandrach said, if you're doing 3.0, sticking with the old spatbooks is fine. If you do 3.5, you may wish to consider picking up the Complete books. Note that you should be able to find them on-line or at a used bookstore for a lot less than the base cover price by now.
