| fenix02038702-15-05, 09:27 PM | ok, Im kinda new to this RP scene... I think I have alotta questions, so please bear with me if theyre kinda...dumb. and Ive been told I can be long winded... 1) first off, I HAVE played a little. I got the basic game and the adventure game for christmas. and I havent played a character, I just played the dungeon master. so after playing through those in about a week, I went out in search of fresh meat...I got the three rulebooks, Forgotten Realms, and City of the spider queen. but first, I wanted to learn the other half of the game. I wanted to create my own character, from scratch. so I was trying to make a character. I got a copy of the blank character sheet outta the back of the book and I went through the players handbook, and tried to figure it out, and it seemed like it left allot of stuff out. I couldnt find any information on what grapple was or was for, what all the squares were for next to fortitude, reflex, and will were for, what the squares were for next to initiatvie, what touch is, flat-footed, how to find AC, what all the spaces next to all the skills were for, how to find spell save, arcane spell failure, and all the stuff under arcane spell failure.... I read through the book, but I seem to be missing something... can anyone help me? 2) I played through the basic game, and the adventure game, and I played with the minatures on the folding map/map tiles. Do I have to make whole new maps/tiles if I make my own adventures? It seems I heard somewhere that I didnt? If I do...can anyone suggest materials? thank you for tolerating me! |

Check pages 155-157 in the 3.5 PHB (Player's Handbook) for the full Grapple rules. Basically, it's when you're wrestling with an opponent. ...what all the squares were for next to fortitude, reflex, and will were for, what the squares were for next to initiatvie,... Those squares are where you write down the various factors that add up into your saves or initiative. What goes in each square is written above the square (or column of squares) in fine type. (The spaces next to the skills are similar--they are where you record the factors that add up to your total modifier in a certain skill) For armor basics--check pages 134 and 136 in the PHB. All should be revealed... :D Do I have to make whole new maps/tiles if I make my own adventures? It seems I heard somewhere that I didnt? If I do...can anyone suggest materials? A battle map is not necessary, but can be very useful. I usually use a specialized plasic battlemat, pre-printed with 1-inch squares. These are available at game stores or online. The 2 major manufacturers are Chessex and Crystal Caste. You draw your map on the board with wet-erase markers, then wipe it off with a wet cloth. (Do NOT use dry-erase markers on these mats--they never come off!) There are many other techniques that people use (and you likely will hear a great deal about them from other posters--brace yourself! :smirk: Welcome aboard! |
