what would you say the ideal fourth member is in a 4th-level party with a:

Rogue
Druid
Warmage

I was thinking defensive fighter (full plate, tower shield).

NOTE: Paladin would be ideal, but unforinatly this is an somewhat EVIL campaign.

Anything the fourth player wants to play. A tank would be okay, but I don't think any party necessarily needs any one class or set of classes.

In the first D&D game I played seriously in, the party we started with had:
Fighter
Paladin
Barbarian
Warlock
Artificer
Bard
Rogue

So, we had no arcane caster or real healer. The player of the artificer didn't even really know how to use his class abilities either. We did great though. Since we had no healers, the party became an offense machine. We focused on destroying our enemies quickly and efficiently. We never lost one character.

While your party lacks a tank, you probably have enough options to find your own way to win most battles. A druid can wildshape into various forms that can withstand sufficient damage, or heal others who take damage. The rogue and warmage have the damage output to drop monsters.

Almost anything could suffice to fill the fourth slot of your party. Your party as is would have less problems sneaking around without a heavy armor fighter. Perhaps a scout or ranger could help the rogue flank enemies and remain stealthy.

well you could always use a Paladin of Slaughter/Tyranny if the campaign is mostly evil and you still want to use a paladin type of character.

those pallies can be found here (http://d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#paladinVaria ntsFreedomSlaughterAndTyranny)

I think your party covers all of the bases. You can add pretty much whatever you want. I tank would be nice, but just about anything could work

depending on the stats and choices of the other players, a tank would be fairly important. At fourth level, a druid cannot yet wild shape and is fairly weak in melee. A rogue without someone to flank with is fairly weak, and an arcane caster without someone between himself and the enemy is probably going to get dropped fairly quickly. The best choice for a fourth would be someone that can fill all of these gaps. True, the fourth player could choose "anything he wants to play" and you'd be just fine, but rarely is that in the best interest of the rest of the group as a whole.

Now... that's not to say you need a straight tank. A ranger with two weapon fighting or distracting shot (from PHB2) or a swashbuckler or a barbarian or a samurai or a monk or any number of different classes could be of use. What you'll really want though, if you want decent synergy with the rest of the group, is a melee combatant that can flank for the rogue and block for the casters.

ah...well, as it turns out, the warmage player decided they'd rather play a barbarien (char. sheets haven't been made yet). So, I guess the fourth player (me!) is stuck with the warmage...:D

Note: I've been wanting to play a warmage for a while- I think they're an awesome class.

Well, can't help you ,since I only briefly had any experience with warforged in the D&D:O.
You can make evil paladins (I called them Avengers) just flip the terms over. Lay on Hands turns into Withering Grip (causes wounds) , Aura of Courage turns into Aura of Fear (causes fear effects) Turn Undead is Rebuke instead, and Remove Disease turns into Blight.

Well, fighter could've been good, however barbarian already got taken.

But check out this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=698904) post, we could use your evil PCs as villains once your exploits have become noteworthy.
