Is concealed doors an older version of secret doors?Concealed doors is a 1st / 2nd edition AD&D concept which does not appear in 3.x D&D. If I remember correctly, concealed doors were otherwise normal doors which were hidden behind things (e.g. someone had put a tapestry over them), whereas secret doors were designed to resemble stonework, oak panels etc. In terms of game mechanics, an elf had a 4 in 6 chance of spotting a nearby concealed door without actively searching but only a 2 in 6 chance of spotting a nearby secret door without actively searching. (These numbers are probably wrong - its been a while!) It would be easy to introduce concealed doors to 3.5 (for instance make the search DC 15 instead of 20 and allow elves within 5' to roll without actively searching) but the designers apparently decided it was an unnecessary complication.
Seeker95 09-23-05, 07:55 PM	A concealed door is an obvious door hidden by something "in front of it". Move the curtain or suit of armor and see the door. A secret door is something other than an obvious door. Pull the lever to spin the wall. Climb in the fireplace to lower the elevator. Amethal said it better. I just used fewer words.
