| ShizukaRyuGP02-19-05, 12:49 PM | This is actually a character question, BUT I'm more so asking if it would be possible within the world. My dm is starting a mid-level campaign, with the intent of making a VERY unorthadox party, characters the players have joked about or thought what if? He is debating however on if my idea is possible. If A radiant half-dragon elf were to have a child with a shadow half-dragon elf, would the resulting child have 1/4 of each, and thus a duality to him. Because of a dragon's magical nature to mate with anything. The one major limitation i put on him was that he still got one breath weapon a day, he had to choose. His personality is intrinsically good, he strives to be good, but his shadow half is somewhat his bain. he hates it, and resists using anything from it until a dire situation, in which case, he fights, or reacts to things very differently. THis struggle, would or could eventually lead to insanity or a sub-plot. I am asking, what do you all think of its plausibilty, and its concept for development. I know it should go in both of the character posts so I put it in the general. |
| Super Guy02-19-05, 01:04 PM | I suppose it seems possible. I wouldn't turn him insane, though. He might have a killer instinct that rages in him when he's mad, or drunk, but I think it shouldn't be TOO apparent at all times. No 'voices in the head', because I think it's overused :( I think, if your character gets enraged (seriously injured while sober, or offended while drunk) then he should start seeing red. Otherwise, he should stay level-headed. |
| ShizukaRyuGP02-19-05, 01:15 PM | yeah, thats what I meant. Later on, as I develop him as a person, he will start to embrace it, as he regrets what he does when he loses it, as he comes down from the rush to see what happened, he will examine the question do the ends justify the means? |
| Edymnion02-19-05, 04:57 PM | Are you just asking if it's possible to have two half-dragon templates at the same time? If so, yeah, its possible. It can be applied to any coporeal being, even other dragons (its actually how you make a halfbreed dragon is to slap the template of one onto the other). Just don't get caught up in thinking that Half-XXXX actually means that you are literally 50% of whatever the template says. You can be a half-dragon half-troll half-illithid half-elf if you wanted. |

Ok, I find the idea of a half-dragon dragon to be just patently absurd. That means that if two red dragons mate we get a half-red dragon red dragon. With bonuses to AC and ability scores. While I suppose that it might be ok for making a mixed breed dragon, it won't work very well if the dragons in question are of comparable power. Never mind the supplements, this is power creep of a totally different kind. After a few generations we'll have a bunch of little Tiamats running around. :P |

| Escef02-20-05, 07:14 AM | But think of all the XP they would be worth! Especially considering their low HD vs their CR! While I do find that thought amusing, because when I play it's usually as the DM I just can't laugh at it. I'm sure you little buggers love the idea of me surrounded by players begging to fight an 8 HD creature with a CR in the upper teens so they can triple level, but I just fail to find it attractive. :weep: :P |
