However, does this count for abilities such as Greater Turning (the granted power of the Sun Domain, and a class ability of the Radiant Servant of Pelor), where you are still turning undead?

10-29-06, 03:31 PM Not sure what you are asking. The Sun domain abilty specifies undead. That means that you couldn't use it against an elemental, if that is what you are asking.

If you are facing an undead elemental, well... :bigeyes:

FACT: In the case of a cleric who takes an elemental domain, you get a number of elemental turning/rebuking attempts per day equal to your CHA+3. These are in addition to your normal turning undead attempts per day. So, for instance, a cleric with the fire domain who has a +3 CHA could turn/rebuke elementals (as appropriate) 6 times per day, and THEN turn/rebuke undead 6 times per day. This being as opposed to having to use up Turn Undead attempts to turn elementals instead. The two are separate abilities that have separate uses per day. If that same cleric had a second elemental domain, he would have ANOTHER 6 turn/rebuke attempts per day, to use against the appropriate elemental creatures.

Now, the Sun domain gives a special type of turning, Greater Turning, which I know must be used on undead, as stated. However, what I'm asking is whether or not that once-per-day Greater Turning uses up one of my normal Turn Undead attempts per day, or if it's in addition to my normal CHA+3 times per day. Also, the Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class from the Complete Divine gives Greater Turning (as per the special power of the Sun Domain) as a class ability usable CHA+3 times per day. Would this count as a different kind of Turning for purposes of feats such as Divine Metamagic (ie, can I use my Greater Turning attempts to power my divine metamagic spells)?

10-29-06, 09:24 PM From my understanding the one Greater Turning attempt does use one of your standard turns. Basically, it makes the normal one into a Greater Turning attempt.

That's the way I've always seen it done, and the way it's been ruled in any campaign I've played in.

As far as the metamagic feats go, I would say that you should stick to the standard. This is something your DM should actually rule, especially since I can't site you any rules for this to be based on. It seems like your channeling a different kind of energy when you do one of your different Turn attempts... especially for elementals. I don't think that different energy would effect your metamagic feats in the same way. The Greater turning ones might work... but like I said.... pretty much up to the DM unless you can find something expressly for it or against it.
