| MidgardFrostburn10-06-04, 10:53 PM | Greetings, I will try to help you. Let me start by first saying, DONT WORRY, we all had problems initially when starting to learn the game. It happens and has happened to the best of us. I have not seen the new boxed basic sets of D&D but I can tell you how it works in the book editions of the game (i.e Players Handbook 3.5) 1. Figure out what your dexterity modifier is. This bonus gets added to your armor class. 2. Second, figure out what kind of armor you have. Being a rogue, you probably have leather or studded leather (if it is available in the basic game). Find out what the armor bonus is and add this to your dexterity modifier. 3. Third, if you are using a shield (not likely with a rogue) add the shield modifier to your current figure. Add the total to "10" and thats your armor class. Thus: your armor class should be: Armor bonus + Shield Bonus + Dexterity Bonus +10 = your armor class. Thus, if I was a 1st level rogue with a dexterity of 16 (a +3 bonus to AC) and was wearing normal leather armor (+2 Armor Bonus) and no shield, my AC would look like this: (Leather Armor Bonus +2) + (Dex Bonus +3) + 10 = AC 15 This is using the values out of the PHB 3.5, I hope this helps. Email me at MidgardFrostburn@yahoo.com if no one replies to this and you still have a question. Whatever you do, don't sweat this, the game is incredible and will keep you entertained for years. |
| Valencia10-06-04, 11:35 PM | thanx for the help. you did all the work for me :D my modifier is +3 and I use leather armor.I'm thinking of getting studded leather instead. I will make sure to buy the players handbook 3.5. once again thanx. |
| Martryn10-07-04, 01:55 AM | :teach: Ahha But, you are a halfling, and being small, you get a +1 to your AC. It breaks down like this: armor bonus (+2 leather) + shield bonus (0) + Dex bonus (assuming 17, +3, same as 16) + size modifier (+1 for being small, +0 for being MED, or normal, sized, -1 for being large i.e. ogre sooo +1 small) + 10= 16! You have three different saving throws. Fortitude is how well your body can take punishment, so it is modified by constitution, which is how healthy your body is. Reflex is how quick you can react to danger and get out of the way of things, so it is modified by dexterity, which is your agility. And Will is how strong your mind is and how able you are to fight off mental intrusions. It is modified by wisdom, which is sort of llke your characters perception and awareness and common sense. At 1st level, your fortitude is +0 modified by Con (probably 12 or 13) to a +1. Your reflex starts as +2 for being a rogue and is modified by Dex (see above) to a +5. Your will is +0 at first (a rogue's good save is reflex) and is modified by Wis. I'm going to assume your Wis is 10 or 11, which would put your will at 0. If your Wis was a 9, your will would be -1 or if it was a 12 or 13 a +1. Hope that was helpful. |
