I am astounded there ARE people who have played that long its inspiring to think you can still find new things to do and keep enjoying yourselves throughout your lives and still have something to do. Kudos. :cheer:

Cookies and beer for all. :pint:

Keep up the good paper fight. :fight!:

Thanks for the bows, the beer, and most especially the cookies.

Of course, I plan to be playing 30 decades from now! I figure by the time I'm ready to game with the Big Guy in the Sky, technology will have sufficiently advanced to the point where I can download my brain to a PC and play D&D 29th Edition in a virtual environment with my descendants until humanity runs out of power.

Damn, I just realized how severely geek that sounded.

I've only got around 17 years of play myself. I hope I'll make 30 (and more) though

Its certainly very impressive. It would be even more so if they had kept up with all the editions and supplements.

Hmm... 30 years from now? I hope so!

Only 24 years here. But I game with another guy who's been playing just as long. That's 48 years total!

I'm only up to around 15 years. Probably not enough for a cookie, but maybe I can get some M&Ms.

Damn Diaglo...Chainmail's even too old-school for me ;) Anyone else still have their original chits?

I still have some original characters from when I was 11, on binder paper, with ridiculous stats on them.

Still have six or so box sets of Grenadier miniatures (halflings, females, wizard's room, dwellers below, specialists, a big box with paints in it that came with a guide and brushes). I have my first Ral Partha figure, I have ancient NPC sheets (tall, narrow reddish/orange things that look like TSR printed them with a cheap desktop printer). I have a few ancient official 1st Ed character sheets, plenty of 2nd ed sheets, all the core books from both 1st and 2nd editions (except the Cthulhu version Deities & Demigods - always on the lookout for one of those).

I don't have my original 1st edition-era red basic box with the cool Erol Otis painting on it anymore: when my high school girlfriend dumped me back in '89, I believe the rotten ***** sold it, and my favorite 1st ed modules (the entire "A" series among them). She snuck her own 2nd edition basic box in (as if I wouldn't notice). I later found all the "A" series modules at a local hobby shop, and I swear to God, they were my own copies, staring me in the face. I grudgingly bought back my own property.

Lesse... I have the old Dungeon Geomorphs book (written in and drawn upon, appropriately enough) and just about every store-bought module from 1st Edition, including the one a guy in junior high tore in half when his players ****** him off - didn't bother me, I just taped it back together again. That one was the original White Plume Mountain, by the way, one of my faves.

I have adventures I wrote at the ripe old age of twelve, by hand, featuring extensive maps and usually involving githyanki (the Fiend Folio was new) and really ungodly-powerful weapons you'd laugh at if you saw today.

I have one. Count 'em...it...umm...yeah anywho, I have one chit left, which for some reason has followed me through 4 states, three countries, and 18 moves. I used to think it was lucky, but since I've been reading Full Frontal Nerdity lately, I'm starting to think it might just be cursed.

I remember playing D&D at school in '77 (I must have been all of 13). Somebody had picked up the original books in the US and would charge people fiendish amounts to borrow them for photocopying - those of us who couldn't even afford photocopying (and it WAS expensive then) just spent ages writing out the tables. A friend bought me a DMG for my 17th birthday so I didn't need to keep doing that! Dice were also a problem then - sometimes we used to play with just a pile of d6 - attack rolls and saves were 4d6-4 (good range but terrible spread).

"Do you remember the original Live Aid?" Sure do, up until 2pm when - of course - I went off to the local D&D club for the day. Priorities!

University was a good time for gaming - killed any chances of a degree for me but that hasn't hurt me none. ;)

Then {shudder} in 1991 came the Dark Time Of No Gaming, also known as Becoming A Father. Ten years later, I started at the local University games club and now help run it - although with my track record I don't know if that's a good thing. It's weird - over 20 years ago I used to travel to Reading Uni to attend GamesFair and now I run games there. Maybe the spirits of Don Turnbull and Gary Gygax are benevolently watching over my dice rolls.

Yep. Had one of the first copies of the "3-volume set"- the pre-preduction copies without the thicker covers. Been DMing and playing more than 30 years.

Played wargames before that, some of which had some roleplaying overtones.

And a cheers and hope that we'll all be playing RPG's 30 years from now :)

I've often thought there should be a "old gamer's retirement home", with lots of large tables and comfy chairs, shelves full of every RPG book every printed, and free Mountain Dew.

Been playing half that time myself (15 years). I also want to give a special congrats to those 30 year veterans that have kept an open mind about the game and it's various incarnations and have not slid into the deep pit of close minded grognardism. :tiphat: to you!

I've been playing about 12 years, but as that's more than half my life I feel I deserve some kind of congrats. So i'm going to pat myself on the back and be done with it *pat pat*

I do intend to play until well past 40, though - keep the old brain going, you know? :D

Yeah, some of us did, but didn't use the miniatures. I remember playing great Avalon Hill games such as Squad Leader, Diplomacy, 1776, Kingmaker, and Naval War (beer and pretzel game) as well as Star Fleet Battles (I'm thinking that was FASA), Swashbuckler! and Fast Attack Boats (Yaquito Games that I wish I could get my hands on today), and Junta (West End Games).

Oh yeah ... and I've been only playing D&D for 25 years. Thus, no cookie for me. :(

I'm 31 and started when I was 19 so I've only been playing for 12 years now. Most of that as a DM.

I hope to still be playing when I'm 49, that would be awesome.

I had a man in his fifties join as a newb when I used to run games for his kids. He was an excellent gamer. Very creative and a good roleplayer.

Then his wife told him he couldn't play anymore. I was disappointed to put it nicely.

This post scared me... I've been playing consistantly since I was 8 but started playing when I was 5 If I count since I started playing... Damn 23 years... Of course the games when i was 5 was a joke, but *shrugs* they weren't much better at 8 either. Got great around 14 or so and have again become not so great... ah oh well that what you get for moving across country and having to find new groups.

The only thing I am young at is collecting miniatures, but thats strictly for props during the sessions (store guys got mad at me cause I bought a Behir mini, then tossed the card in their trash can before leaving). I have been gaming for 19 years, almost to the final stretch. . . Can I collect retirment from this?

20+ Beer

ewwwwwwwww. Can this prize be switched for when I earn it (19 years from now). Beer = the worst tasting thing EVER. I think we should have choices of various alcohol. I choose Rum & Cokes

note it doesn't have to be coke, pepsi is fine too (To me they taste the same)

27 years D&D, 36 :embarrass wargaming. How did I get that old??? Owned chainmail but never played it. Was to busy with system 7 napoleonics.

Started with Avalon hill board games, and airfix plastic minis. Still own and play with the minis.

No. It must be beer. After 20+ years of playing, believe me, you'll enjoy it. If not, us old-timers can always pour a congratulatory cooler over you like they do at football games. :D

Check your fridge? 7-11? Bum on the corner? Ok, so that's really his beer, but who hasn't rolled a few bums for a beer now and then...er...in the game I mean. Yeah that's it...

You probably drink domestic(US) beer, try Red Stripe(Jamaican) Moose Drool(Canadian) or Guiness(Irish duh)

If you have tried those and still dont like beer then I can give you a rum and coke but you'll have to pay for it

I would try different beers but obtaining them would be difficult (I am 19 and live in america me = opressed) For some reason I doubt kegs ever have anything good in them, hence why I now avoid parties. And bars are not my things. So no rum and cokes for me for about 2 years :weep: (1 1/2 to be more exact but still)

stupid america and it's dumb*** rules.

After two and a half years in Germany, I still didn't like beer. Some people just don't like the tase of the stuff...just like some people don't like the taste of Scotch.

Besides, after 25 years of D&D, I think I deserve at least a round of shots!
