Ok, i was playing with my group not so long ago and one of my companions took constitution damage and i am completely confused, he took the abbitity damage and was told he also takes hitpoint damage because of the extra hitdice or his cons mod or somthing simply becasue he was not level one, so you take more damage the higher level you are.

Im ok with this as it is meant to be relative to your power so it dosent matter what level you are it will take a certain percentage of your health depending on how much cons damage you took, but a rule i have not come across yet but have heard of is 'death from massive damage' and as far as i am aware this is dependant on size catogory, if for instance a medium character takes 60 points of damage from one attack he will be forced to take a save or die.

Now what would happen if i was quite high level and i took cons damage witch forced more than 60 (example) damage, would i have to suffer from 'death from massive damage' simply because i am powerful or have i got all the rules in this thread completely wrong.

Please help i am very stuck.

Anytime your Constitution score changes, your hit points are recalculated. Effectively, every 2 points of Con represents 1 hp/level.

This hp recalculation can kill you, but it is not really damage and shouldn't be included in the Massive Damage calculation.

The Massive Damage defalt is 50 hp. The is an optional variant that modifies the amount based upon size category.

The loss of hit points from a Con change is not damage, so it does not factor into any "massive damage" calculations.
