celestialkin 02-26-08, 08:14 PM	As someone who likes to regularly shave his head bold I started to imagine what I would do if I had a scroll of Continual Flame, or the next best thing if a character had one. Would what I am picturing work, or would the whole guy become one big ball of flame? Would it be too tacky? Any downsides to this, like maybe setting your sleeping bag on fire? Sleep deprivation? Never being able to grow hair again? Edymnion 02-26-08, 08:20 PM	Continual Light. Target: Object Touched Your head is part of you, a creature, hence it is not an object. A creature is not a valid target for this spell. Even if you could, it specifically says that the flames are not hot, hence they cannot burn anything, including your sleeping bag. However, you could always cast it on a yamika and wear that around.
Toran_A_Sunder 02-26-08, 08:24 PM	I would allow it no problem, whether it says creature or object touched. It would not set anything on fire. Continual Flame just sheds light. And no, no intimidate check. But it still looks cool...ish.
Seeker95 02-26-08, 08:35 PM	Aside from the glowing head basically saying "here I am!" I see no in-game mechanics issues. If this magic were in the real world, there would be a whole lot of issues. You could never see out a window at night. Sleep might be an issue for some. Especially those trying to sleep near you. It could ruin your love life if you had someone who wanted the lights off. And the bugs woudl love you in the summertime!
Iktomi 02-26-08, 08:35 PM	I might rule that it wears off eventually like an arcane mark inscribed on a person. However, there would be no fire danger, as continual flame isn't real flame.
Shaggy_Shaggs 02-26-08, 08:45 PM	The spell targets objects, not creatures. It's certainly not too much, but it's not supported by the rules. You might try what I did with one of my old characters, though. The guy cast Continual Flame on ink and then tattooed himself with it.

1red13 02-26-08, 08:51 PM	If you allowed the spell to work it sure would look silly. Can you imagine walking around people stopping, looking and pointing. This isn't even considering if you have to meet people of importance. Nobles and important merchants or similar people would be thinking about your flaming head instead of taking you seriously Never mind the odd person rushing over to throw a blanket on your apparantly burning head or dumping a bucket of water on you to put you out It would seem a little more practical and a lot less hassle to cast it on a hat and wear it. That way you can take it off and put it away.
UAMDB 02-27-08, 08:40 AM	Whatever happened to the classic Continual Light cast on a dead Ioun Stone? That is standard issued gear in my games. I have been using that since 3.0 first came out. Its great for human fighter types.

Designate the color as Gold. Step 3: Learn how to fly/punch things really hard, and be a Warlock/Warmage Step 4: Dye your hair blonde, and use a lot of hair spray to make it really freaking spiky. Step 5: Call yourself Goku/Vegeta. Step 6: Duck incoming pewter dice/pencils. Edit: Step 0: Be a Changling Lycanthroptic Titanic Ape with the Surrogate Spellcaster feat and max levels possible in Warlock with (hopefully) Fell Flight as one of your Invocations known.

You missed the silent/stilled prestidigtation to turn your hair gold. But I might have to do that with a monk sometime in the future.

M-bark 02-27-08, 02:44 PM	Talk about enlightened. It may say 'object touched', but consider this: Character has a ring of regeneration. His friend cuts his head off. His head regrows. His old head is now an object, so he can cast Continual Flame on it, and he does. Then his friend cuts his head off again and he hold his old head to the stump of his friend's head (the cutter hold the head of the cut one to the cut one's neck stump), thus attaching it (because he has a ring of regeneration). Congratulations! Your head is now officially enlightening.

CryoSilver 02-27-08, 04:25 PM	My warblade has Continual Flame cast on his head. That is, he cut some guys head off and had Continual Flame cast on it. Now, after cashing in some old gear, he got the head made into an intelligent item. It's name is Wilson :)

The DM ruled that I could have it aesthetically look how I wanted, so long as there were no mechanical differences from the spell. I had an ogre wandering around in adamantine spiked full plate with a burning helmet. I also threw it on his greatsword. It seemed to do the trick aesthetically. In conclusion, just cast it on a helmet or something you can take off at the end of the day.

Azezel 02-28-08, 12:37 PM	I also threw it on his greatsword. It seemed to do the trick aesthetically. My Cleric/Favoured Soul of Joramy (Goddess of Fire) had a light mace, the head was made of volcanic stone and shaped like a fist and had continual flame on it. Used it as a walking stick.
