| Wastelander7506-01-07, 12:13 PM | IS there a way to convert them from one another? |
| Morgen06-01-07, 12:30 PM | Well there is a conversion document out there, I'm not sure if its online though. I've got a paper copy of it, but my quick google search didn't find anything specific. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-01-07, 01:07 PM | *sigh* It's on the FAQ page of the main D&D website. Just go backwards. Or, like any good DM from AD&D, do what you did whenever you found out that the rules were inconsistent or didn't cover what you wanted -- make **** up. |
| Prof. Pacali06-01-07, 01:55 PM | What do you want to convert, monsters, spells or magic items? Feats and PrCs aren't really backwards compatible. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-01-07, 02:10 PM | Feats and PrCs aren't really backwards compatible. Both work well enough as kits or collections of special nonweapon proficiencies. |
| Wastelander7506-01-07, 04:16 PM | I was looking to convert some NPC's from a conan book |
| Prof. Pacali06-01-07, 04:46 PM | Both work well enough as kits or collections of special nonweapon proficiencies. Kits must be selected at character creation. Also the power of a PrC is balanced with the requirements needed to qualify. While there may be a requirement for a kit, all the abilities of the kit are recieved at 1st level (which is why my DM in high school hated them). It creates a serious game balance issue to import say Bear Warrior or Pious Templar into a 2E game. (I can turn into a bear! And because I took the Extra Rage NWP I can do it three times a day! At 1st level!) If you don't believe me, look at the Bladesinger kit from the Complete Book of Elves sometime. |
| Prof. Pacali06-01-07, 04:55 PM | I was looking to convert some NPC's from a conan book Look at the classes that they have. If they are melee combatants make them Warriors (usually Fighters, or maybe Barbarians from the Complete Barbarian's Handbook) and give them appropriate WPs and possibly Weapon Specialization. if they are sorcerors make them Magic-Users who know a limited number of spells but don't need to prepare the spells in advance. Rogues will be thieves, use the 3E conversion manual to calculate their skills into thief skill percentages (though they may have more or less than they are entitled to: make sure they have the 60 points from 1st level plus 30 points per level, check for racial bonuses, and modify based on armor worn). Clerics will become priests, choose spheres for them based on which domains they have, plus all and healing. Druids become specialist priests. Rangers may become fighters if they are not of good alignment. Wizards become regular magic-users, though they may have more spells than alloted by the 2E PHB: check their spellbooks. 3.5 Bards are incompatible with 2E bards. I'm assuming that in Conan all the NPCs are humans of some sort. In 3.5 Humans get more skill points, a bonus feat, and their highest class is their favored class when multiclassing (yes humans may multiclass, get over your shock). I recommend giving a bonus WP and NWP to them to be consistent with the NPC write-ups. Hope this helps. |
| Wastelander7506-01-07, 08:41 PM | that helps out alot. And do you know how I can write up a Sorcerer type class?I want to use them instead of the standard magic-users but not 100% sure on how to do the spells per day. |
| Stormonu06-01-07, 09:12 PM | Sorcerer class is easy. Give them the same XP chart as wizard, same THAC0 and saves. Their spells per day and spells known stay the same as in 3E. Oh, and by the way, you can have kits that don't get all their abilities at 1st level, and instead get them spread out at later levels. A great example is the greenbark ranger, who if I recall correctly, gets his 3rd arm ability at 10th level. |

The 2E DMG has a whole two page section devoted to creating new Character Classes (I doubt I still have my 2E DMG, so I can't tell you the page number). Also look for Player's Option: Spells and Magic, which deals with non-Vancian magic systems (i.e. no spell preparation and no spellbooks. Note that Sorcerors do need to supply the material components for a spell). I'd increase the number of spells per day that a 2E sorceror gets from a 2E magic-user by giving them 2 more spells slots at 1st level, and 1 more at each additional level. If this is confusing, look up the Sorceror class in the current D20 SRD (System Resource Document). |
| Wastelander7506-03-07, 09:52 AM | Thanxs alot....I have been reading Player's Option: Spells and Magic book I have and i think I have a better idea on how to make my Sorcerers now,The part with witches and warlocks seem to fit the idea that I have in mind. |
