Converting 2nd Edition characters to 3.5 [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-26-05, 10:40 AM I apologize if this post is already in existence; I searched the forums until my eyes started bleeding. Could anyone explain or link a site(s) on how to convert my favorite ADnD 2nd edition characters to the amazing 3.5 rules and standards? Or can it even be done since the two systems are basically a completely separate game? Any help is appreciated.

11-26-05, 10:57 AM I believe that there is a program/spreadsheet, that will "convert" characters for you. BUT, and this is a big "but", you'd be better off just set a level that roughly matches up with the power represented by the original character (example: a Wizard 10/Fighter10 in 2nd Ed. is NOT a Wizard 10/Fighter 10 in 3.x edition; it would be closer to like Wizard 10/Fighter 3 in 3rd ed.), and build up from there. Your characters stats would stay roughly the same. Just keep in mind that every 4 character levels you gain a +1 to any stat you want, and in general, your stats will be worth more then before.

11-26-05, 12:25 PM It seems the links you provided Darth is all conversion information from DnD 3.0 to DnD 3.5. Do you know of any specific information or links on how to convert characters from Adnd 2nd edition to 3.0 or 3.5, either one.

I forgot to mention, I do appreciate your help.

11-26-05, 12:48 PM its probably less of a headache to just make a new character with the same name and such, and level him/her up accordingly. The way the systems work are just plain too different to make this an easy task

There is no way to do it. Sure you can invent your own but there is no sure fire way to do it. As it stands, you're best to just recreate the character and level them up to the point where they have the same abilities, roughly.

Unfortuneately this is going to be a hit and miss sort of thing. Not an exact science.

Actually your wrong.. my above post is the conversion manual from going from 2.0 to 3.0....

for example in 2.0 if your strength was 18 100/100 your 3.0 strength would be 23.

11-26-05, 01:59 PM I sat down and figured it one afternoon. We didn't play with GP = XP in 1st & second. I figured based on XP per monster etc. I took a 17th level 2nd Ed char and it turned out to be s/g like 40th level 3.x. Mainly because leveling is much faster with hardly any XP required compared to 3.X

I drove over to my friend’s house and dug out all my dragon magazines and couldn’t find anything there, then went to a local Specialties shop and they didn’t have anything or even know about it. And eventually came back here to find your link to the pdf. It helps a lot my friend.

Thanks again everyone for your input, I’m off to converting a few of my 2nd edition characters. (they are going to be lower level than I expected, but that’s ok, lower levels are fun :) )

Off all my hardcopy of dnd stuff the Core 3.0 is something I don't have.. Actually returned them to get 2 of the 3 Core for 3.5... which is weird since I have multiple copies of the Boxed D&D rules, some before that even.. And even have a module (B4) in French..

Needless to say I have most of everything...
