My first true experience with D&D was the computer game series "Baldur's Gate", and even after I graduated to 3.5 edition -which enthralled me with its comparatively greater freedom and character customisability- I still retain a soft spot for the series. Now, I know that there are already topics here devoted to translating the other party members of that game, from Minsc to Haer'dalis, but that's not why I'm here. I'm here because I'm interested in devising a way to replicate the primary aspect of the series -the ability to play as one of the mortal scions of the slain God of Murder- in D&D 3.5 rules.

Before you ask, I've seen the Dragon issue with the Bhaalspawn template, but it just doesn't strike me as right, partially because I dislike slapping templates on PCs, and more because it just doesn't seem to fit the background. Personally, I'm thinking either a feat tree or a "racial class", ala the Undead classes from Libris Mortis or the Lycanthrope classes from one issue of Dragon, work best. The problem is that I have absolutely no clue how to actually do this. Anyone interested in giving me a hand?

If this does get off the ground, there are uses for it besides recreating Baldur's Gate in your campaign. By adjusting the flavour text to your own needs, you can use the rules to create characters touched by darkness or drawing upon the forbidden powers of their own tainted lineage, as appropriate for your personal campaign.

Sounds like a good idea. It could be one of the racial class kind of things where you have to take a level every so often and you get the abilities that way. Anyways, what I'd really like to see are the stats for the Slayer.

Still, I support you trying to make a Bhaalspawn... racial, I suppose. Thinking back to the game it couldn't be a straight-up race, but yeah, progression would work well. Keep at it and I'll check out your work if you post it.

Keep trying what you're trying, but the template worked just fine for my needs.
