I was just wondering if anyone knew some good cumulatives in fights, nothing really comlex, (complex is good), just somethings that would be fun and easy. An example being: throw flamable oil on your opponent then cast a fire spell or throw a torch on them to make it harder to put out the flames, casting/putting grease at the top of stairs. Or perhaps another would be if someone is swimming use a wand/cast a spell making the water ice around the opponent and do as you see fit. Complex would be good to hear too...

Grease plus gust of wind is good for sweeping groups out of the way.
A very useful trick for controlling the field of battle.

Sleet storm+Summon nature ally:dire bats has amde the day for my lvl5 druid more than once. 40feet radius blindness with no save is just too much.

My group, on more than one occasion, caught opponents in a Web spell until we were ready to fight them, and then set the web on fire with a torch to soften them up. Works well on large groups of opponents, particularly if they have low strengths.

Sink, followed by Otiluke's Freezing Sphere. When you get trapped under the ice, you usually don't survive.

Drenching them with a bucket of water followed by a lightening bolt, another bucket of water, and then shocking grasp would get one of my players a bunch of extra XPs :)

But the water-bolt-water-grasp combination won't do anything more to the target than bolt-grasp would.

ummm, the problem with the bucket of water, a bolt, another bucket then shocking grasp is: you are standing in a puddle of water when you touch him with the Shocking Grasp- you'd rather shock yourself also... Unless you mean you touch the water puddle and not them.

Folks, water has no effect on electricity-based spells in D&D.

Ummm, that would be rather retarded- not to mention in my eyes poor DMing. Using electricity on a pool of water while someone is in it, that person would definitely get shocked.

There are two ways to go through this. Either the water is pure, in which case it's an incredible insulator, and no one gets shocked, or the water isn't pure, in which case it makes a good conductor. If the water is a good conductor, then touching a puddle that someone's standing in won't do anything to them, it's a natural ground. If you touch them, then yes, the properties of the circuit have changed. My way around this is to state that Shocking Grasp and similar spells provide a current source, rather than a voltage source. One is as likely as the other, and one works fine without having to add more mechanics.
