| tricky_bob10-03-07, 04:03 PM | Anyone running this? Any feedback? |
| jalcee10-03-07, 05:34 PM | I'm currently running this in my weekly campaign. The battle in the first of the module was fun, but the story is a little dry and very railroading. You should consider, if you plan to run this, creating a very strong adventure hook to get the characters deeply involved. I've only begun the module, so hopefully it gets a little better. |
| Gerry10-03-07, 06:53 PM | I was running my son thru this. The first chapter is very neatly done. The rest is more or less a "linear" dungeon. Although to interesting areas, such as the Plane of Shadows. Give it a B- or 3.5 out of 5 stars. If you're willing to do a little extra work, you could probably expand the 2nd - 4th chapters so that it's not so linear. That all said, you really do have to arrive at Chapter 5 so..... If you've got a group of slack and hashers this would be a good intro to role-playing. Chapter one requires it. The rest of the crawl, not so much. So you'd "get their feet wet" actually role-playing vs roll-playing. Gerry |
| Gryllmyre10-04-07, 12:36 PM | If you plan to follow up with Shadowdale, you'll have to keep an eye on PC levels, since they may only make it to 7th, possibly early 8th. Shadowdale starts at level 9, but maybe a party halfway through 8th can scrape by. |
| tricky_bob10-04-07, 01:34 PM | My players ran through The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergard first, ending at level 6. I'm running the first chapter (increased Encounter levels accordingly) plus extra bits to include all the relevant bits of info required to get my players up to 8-9th level (5 PC's) so I can move straight into Shadowdale, but as you can see, no one as yet has commented on it :( so I don't know if it plays out as well as it reads. I think the way the player's get to interact with known FR characters and major plot lines is great for role-playing as nothing is better for a player than feeling as if you actually matter in your particular game world. |

As a Dm, getting player feedback is very important. Did you not like the Mystra's Sacred Trust section? Was the Swamp area not enjoyable? Any comments would be appreciated |

I think it came down to presentation but it seemed like a railroad where participating in the proceedings was the only way to press forward. |
| Kamin_Majere10-07-07, 01:24 PM | As a forgotten realms fan i was giddy when i heard about this (and the other two) massive adventures coming out. As soon as Cormyr hit the shelves i purchased a copy for our group to play (a friend of mine was the current DM so imagine my delight that i would ACTUALLY get to play in the realms) Then sadly to my dismay the adventure pretty well sucked. It started ok and actually had role playing in it, but it degraded pretty quickly to an over hyped hack and slash with no "reason" as to why you were doing any of it. We had fun playing it, but even being set int eh Realms i rank it pretty low on my "ever to play again" adventures. I am going to try to run the module once the players i have currently reach 4th level. But its going to take alot of reworking and additions from me. Basically if you read through it and completely retool it its a good adventure, but as is its a stale and dry hack and slash. |

Thats why I've only used that bit and intend to jump into Shadowdale next, where the PC's get to become involved in the whole FR world, events and NPC's. A better reason to adventure then the boring NPC 1 offers xxxxgp to do x,y & z. |
