| Toshi05-12-06, 07:04 PM | I don't know why I never noticed this until now. Why is Leap of the Clouds not in 3.5? I know that the jumping rules have changed, but really anyone can now jump insanely high if they just keep putting one point in just, or even skill focus it. I kind of liked that only the monk character was able to defy these numbers. It just made sense. Even if they just kept the limit and kept Leap of clouds, it would work well it seems. just my humble opinion. |
| Bluebrush05-13-06, 06:54 AM | With speed bonuses, jump as a class skill, an abscesnce of armour check penalties and a tendency toward having a high to very high strength, monks are still the best around when it comes to jumping. The height restriction was just another thing to keep track of and tied an aspect of appearance to in-game statistics. (My very first 3.0 character was a tall and strong yet skinny rogue, simply so I could maximise my leaping ability while still leaving my allies able to drag my carcass out of dungeons.) |
| Elzaban the Ethereal05-13-06, 07:48 AM | Player's Handbook II has a feat for Leap of the Clouds, which basically makes it so that you don't need a running jump. It's a decent replacement, as you can jump much higher from a standstill. |
| Toshi05-13-06, 10:44 AM | interesting. However, does this standstill jump use the player's speed as a factor? |
| Elzaban the Ethereal05-13-06, 10:52 AM | Works just the same as a normal standstill jump, it's just that the DC isn't doubled for not having a running start. Bonuses and penalties due to speed still apply. |
| Toshi05-13-06, 03:20 PM | Two last questions about the new jump skill. It says that there is a -6 penalty for every 10 ft slower than 30ft speed. Is that cumilative with a -6 Armor Check Penalty to make -12, or is it only -6? Secondly, How does someone get 10ft/round? Everything I read about armor only drops a medium size character to 20ft. Thanks for the answers! |
| Bulletproof_Condom05-13-06, 05:06 PM | Yes, the -6 from being slow would stack with an armor check penalty. Second, I'm not sure. Maybe one of those weird ultra armors in Races of Stone or one of those other outer books reduces your speed by two-thirds. |
| Bluebrush05-13-06, 05:36 PM | Well, a halfling in platemail has a speed of 15 feet. Which is why you don't see many halflings in platemail. And Aboleths. Aboleths have a speed of 10 feet on land. |
| Toshi05-13-06, 09:53 PM | Well, a halfling in platemail has a speed of 15 feet... That's why I was asking about Medium size characters |
| IceFractal05-14-06, 05:44 AM | I think Dwarven Mountain Plate might lower your speed to 10', one of those Dwarven stone armors anyway. |
