Ok, I realize that no sane DM would allow the apocalypse wand, but is there really anything in the rulebooks that would explicately state that this (http://archive.gamespy.com/comics/nodwick/gamespyarchive/gspynod278.html) is not allowed?

I'm not seriously considering it... just some random curiousity.

Unless maybe "Wizard Glue" is a magical substance (a la improved Sovereign Glue) that allows adhered items to count as one item for those sorts of purposes? Of course in that case, it'd be the glue's special rule allowing it...
