07-28-05, 09:33 PM Reading over the Experience section of the DMG, and asking myself, when I see EL in an adventure, does that equal the same CR comparison experience?

IE:

CR 2 for a party of 4, 1-3rd level characters, is 600 (DMG p38)

Does the same apply to a EL2 which perhaps maybe is made up of a band of lower level Kobolds?

Also, dealing with Trap experience, this is an opinion question, do other DMs offer experience based on discovery AND disarm, or both. or just one? Does this exp go to the party pool, or just the person performing the action?

EDIT: Does sucessfully completing anon-combat oriented EL scenario, grant that levle of EXP to the party as well?

I give a 1/4 for finding it, then the rest once he has disabled/bypassed it.
yes, noncombat encounters with an EL should also give experience.

Sorta, not exactly. The Encounter Level of an encounter is a composite of the Challenge Ratings of everything in the encounter.

IE:

CR 2 for a party of 4, 1-3rd level characters, is 600 (DMG p38)

Right, a single monster with a CR 2 would grant 600 XP to a party of 4, 1-3rd-level characters. The 600 XP would be divided 4 ways (150 XP, each)

Nope. The party would recieve XP from each kobold in the encounter (DMG, p. 37; step 3). Since a kobold is CR 1/4, the afore-mentioned party would gain 1/4 the normal XP for a CR 1 creature (or 75 XP) for each kobold (DMG, p. 37; Monsters Below CR 1).

Just one.... XP is awarded for "overcoming" the trap whether that means discovering and avoiding the trap, finding and disarming the trap or whatever.

Typically, XP goes only to those who participated in the encounter. As a rule of thumb, if a character that is not performing the detection/disarming of a trap would still be endangered by the trap if it goes off (usually because the the detecting/disarming character screwed up), they're considered participating.

Yes. Of course, if the non-combat encounter is made up of multiple CRs, the party would gain XP for each (as with monsters).
