| General_Ridley11-12-05, 04:24 PM | If you look at books like Complete Arcane, in the Prestige classes and their examples of members of those PrCs, they have a CR equal to their level. so I say CR should equal level for each enemy. so just figure out the CR for 4 (if your party is 4 PCs) enemies of the PCs level. |
| Iabes_Q_c_a_Mahorella11-12-05, 04:27 PM | Ok, thanks. |
| Tyler Do'Urden11-12-05, 04:27 PM | Wow. Most games I've been in, you lose XP for killing your own party members. Yeah, whoever's DMing really needs to make up his own mind about how he wants to handle this. |
| Iabes_Q_c_a_Mahorella11-12-05, 07:54 PM | well, it's not so much "let's kill our allies" as "let's kill our evil exact clones, who are identical to us in every way except for the fact that they're evil. ...Did I mention they were evil?" ... that and by knowing what CR a PC is, I (DM) can throw standard race NPC's w/ class levels at them w/o ad hoc XP awards. |
| Vaelan11-13-05, 03:56 AM | A group of four adventurers of the same level as the PCs would have a CR of the PC's level plus four. However, NPC adventurers are assumed to have less equipment than PCs. If you're giving them copies of equipment too, the battle will be a little harder and thus the CR should be a little higher. |
| Escef11-13-05, 09:18 AM | A group of four adventurers of the same level as the PCs would have a CR of the PC's level plus four. CR= challenge rating, assigned to single creatures and traps, used to assign XP for defeating said creature or trap EL= encounter level, assigned to groups of enemies While you got the number right, your terminology was off. XP for defeating a CR party level + 4 challenge is higher than 4 X CR of party level. Confusing EL and CR is a bad thing. |
| Rhomphaia11-13-05, 11:13 AM | It looks like all this was stated before, but not terribly clearly. Let me make an attempt at clarification. Core class/PrC levels is simply the number of levels as Challenge Rating (plus other considerations of course, such as templates). For NPC classes, subtract one level from the total NPC class levels to figure CR. This works for each individual creature. Now when you add multiple creatures of the same CR, I am a little fuzzy on how it works to figure out the EL, so I won't even try. |
