Gerdreg 01-25-04, 05:44 PM	Could someone please tell me if they have ever seen any official rulings on this subject or a better place to ask this question if not here. I have noticed many of the Constructs in the Monster Manual have spell requirements to create, that far exceed the level of a character who should be able to create the construct. For example, the Flesh Golem has a caster level requirement of 8th to create, but also requires the spell limited wish to create. Is there any way for an 8th level character to cast limited wish? If the answer is for the character to have someone else cast the required spells, then why have level limits at all on the creation feats? By this logic a level 1 fighter can create +5 swords, all he needs is a high level mage to echant the item and cast the spells for him. If i'm way off please enlighten me. Thanks in advance for replies.
Conaill 01-26-04, 12:03 PM	The Caster Level issue is not exclusive to crafting constructs. There's plenty of other magical items which require spells that effectively put a higher CL requirement on the item. If you browse around a bit on the boards, you can probably find dozens of threads about whether or not CL is actually a prerequisite for the crafter, or whether it only indicates the default level at which a found item has been made. This is an area a lot of people wished would have been cleared up in 3.5 Yes, it's possible to cooperate with a second (or third...) spellcaster to fulfill the requirements for an item. If your 8th level character had a Ring of Three Wishes or something similar, he could also use that to fill the Limited Wish requirement of the item. However, your hypothetical 1st level fighter will *not* be crafting any magical items, because at the very least you need to have the required magical crafting feats, and thus be a spellcaster.
