ok, I'll begin dming a non-magical campaign that will have in it's basis a mechanical thechnology, higly alchemical and will need some more flavor in crafting rules. So I'm looking up for some help you see... and please, it's a non-magical campaign, so don't base anything on that...

1- Books and guides that complements mechanical stuff are really limites...does anyone know any good sources, tips, classes or house rules that are ok to use or adapt?
2- Since the gameplay will be very much based on construction and crafting, I think the time measured in weeks(and thus, as well as it's conversion to days) will slowdown manythings. Any variant ideas?
3- the craft skill on PH describes very briefly how to craft mundane itens. But what if I get an item that it's not listed and I just have the average Market price? I mean, if a player wants to build anything, I'll probably have an idea of the MP by comparing to similar itens, but not about crafting dc and such. How do I make it?
4-the sandshaper PrC on Sandstorm presents a nice ability that is in many ways similar to what I want, but the check is a CL check, not a skill check. Do you think that if I base the Dcs on those tables and use a craft check instead of CL check it will unballance?

all and any help will be very much appreciated

S&S's Dragonmech is always good for a low-magic steampunk game.
