| Garandene_Lyrandar12-13-07, 12:07 AM | My PC's invented a weird way to get around using the Eberron Lightning Rail system. They created a cart-like structure with a conductor sphere underneath and two Loadstones Sovereign Glued to the underside to counteract the repeling forces of the two conductor stones. It goes quite fast as one of the players calcuated the speed using some fancy equations. Do you think this vehicle would work? Or more precisely... 1.Would the sovereign glue actually hold the loadstone? Oh and by this I mean would it be able to stick it to the cart so the it would not appear on pcs when they leave the cart. 2.Would the loadstones counteract the repulsion? 3.Would a cart be able to withstand the lightning? Tell me what you think. (oh and I'm not actually sure what forum this is meant to be in) |

I also think that Sovereign Gluing might work, but that does not prevent them being ripped out anyway, only makes it more difficult. (A painting firmly attached to a wall can still be stolen by slicing out the section of wall it is on, for example.) |
| NinjaLemur12-13-07, 01:23 PM | Okay the slight problems i'm seeing with this. 1. I think the vechile will work but they do need some way to insulate from the electricty. which could probally be done with a resistance energy spell. 2. How do they control the speed and stopping the thing? because it sounds like when we where kids and youth little boat in the in the stream and watched i go becuase thats pretty much what would happen once they set the cart on the tracks. the reason Lighting rail cars can stop and go is they have elmental with a mage controling them. 3. As the other person brought up House Orionwil be none to thrilled when they find someoneelse has been useing the rails in some jury rigged vechile that could potionally collide into one of there very expesenive coaches thats my thoughts on this hope it helps PS I dam sure wouldnt want to be one the testing this thing |

Whether the souvereign glue will hold the lodestones depends, (amongst other things) on the contact area between the lodestones and the cart, the weight of the stones and the maximum tensile stress of the glue (i.e., up to you to decide, though glues usually don't like being loaded in tension). 2. As I don't know of any device on the Lightning Rail wagons counteracting the repulsion of the conductor stones I assume its either not necessary, or the repulsive force is counteracted by the weight op the wagons. In the first case your PCs' cart wouldn't need anything either. In the second case you would have to make your cart heavier or provide some other downward acting force. I'm not sure how two lodestones both attached to the cart are supposed to do that however, all they'd do is pull the one side of the cart towards the other. 3. I'd say the cart was an inanimate object and so the usual rules apply, can't remember exactly what they are though. Of course creative PC's should be able to work around this, just as they should be able to come up with a bright idea to protect themselves against the lightning. At the moment however I still see the same problems with the design that others have already mentioned: 1. What is providing the propulsion for the cart? The LR uses bound elementals for this, I'm assuming your PCs don't have acces to this technology (otherwise they might draw some unwelcome attention from certain parties). 2. Has House Orien given the PCs permission to make use of the conductor stone lines? Otherwise they might want to have a word with the PCs  Anyway I'd better get back to my actual Engineering homework now ;) P.S. As you said you were unsure wich forum this should have been in, I think one of the Eberron forums might have been more appropriate, but with all the forums around it can be hard to find the right one. |
