Hey all,

I decided to put this thread here instead of the DM section, cause more people would read threads in the General area.

I'm planning a game I'm going to run, set in the standard D&D world, where two nations are about to go to war and wipe each other out. However, there will be some modern elements from this world - some of them military, others civilian.

What modern elements do people think would be good to add?

How "modern"?

In the game being planned, Modern would be anything in this world, from the 1st of January 2006 and onward.

Just buy D20 Modern then, slap that in where ever you want in your game world after that.

Ditto. You want d20 Modern and just give it a fantasy feel.

"set in the standard D&D world... with some modern elements."

Like this: a medieval world, but court wizards in warring nations are working on spells that would duplicate the effects of intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads? Cool.

Genetic engineering. Giant ocean freighter ships, international trade, and all that it entails. Communism and capitalism. Disposable batteries. Dirigibles.

But you're basically playing D20 Modern unless you keep some medieval limitations, like: no guns, no telecommunications, no modern medicine, pervasive superstitious beliefs, etc.

Anachronism. It's the mix of the two that makes it fun!

Satellites; Scrystones sent into the heavens that allow scrying on any location on the surface (but cannot preceive through walls/etc).

Biological warfare; disease that create undead plagues, or other magical-based disease.

Check out Eberron; it has various Modern innovations with magical feels. Magical trains, airships, telegraphs, etc.
