I was not sure where to put this so I am putting it here.

I am looking for a program that will let me create my world in preferably in 3-D

I want the program because I need something to look at so I know how to place it all on a grid map for minis. I keep making the scaling wrong. I draw the buildings off scale and then that throws off the roads and that screws over what the town looks like. :(
If you think some tips on drawing the towns, landscapes and dungeons will help just fine I will take those.

I understand you can not post links to other sites.

Thank You for any of the help you can provide.

Though not 3D I'm a big fan of ProFantasy's like of programs Campaign Cartographer and FractalTerrains (and if you can find it the old Interactive Atlas of the Forgotten Realms). Though the bundles can be expensive the individual programs are at decent prices.

Have you tried Google Sketchup? It's free and really easy to learn.

Campaign Cartographer and FractalTerrains are great tools.
Profantasy's City Designer makes cities in a decent half hour.

Expensive, but if you are a serious mapper, well worth it. I'm a fantasy mapper, and used all of those for years. Joe Slayton did the work / programming on Fractal Terrains, he's got a yahoo group and such that I'm part of. Great guy. He also wrote "Wilbur", which is a great 3-D large scale fractal continent mapping tool.

What kind of scale are you talking? What kind of maps do you need?

The key is go to profantasy's site, and look at the sample maps they got stashed away there. You'll likely be amazed.
