I've been working on a homebrew campaign setting to play in with me and my crew, and I've always wanted to make a cool creation story for how the various races in the world came into existence to use. I was wondering, though, does that really conflict with anything within the workins of Dungeons and Dragons, or like, concerning the existence of gods in the game? Also, is evolution logical within the context of D&D? I kind of don't think so, even though that's kind of an idea I've been thinking about. Would knowing the origin of the various races and their relationships to one another change the way they regard each other? Would it be different if all of the core races (besides half-elves and half-orcs) all shared a recent common ancestor while the common ancestor between them and, say, monstrous humanoids or goblinoids was much further back? And would some of them even share a common ancestor? Is that even logical?

I guess this really isn't important to a campaign or anything else, but it's just been something I was thinking about. I like the idea of them all having a more fantastic origin. But, I gotta wonder, does the whole concept of thinking out the races origin even fit with the flavor of D&D?

Well The core races already have creation stories (found in the descriptions of the Gods). i dont think it would change their outlook toward one another because if you look at human society our ancestory doesnt change our outlook on eachother. if your worried about god conflicts just replace and remove existing goods as you see fit.
