I was wondering if anyone knows the name and or has a bio on the original creator(s) of Dungeons and Dragons, and if anyone has that clip of the creator from the simpsons ("it is *rolls d20* nice to meet you"). I'm doing a project at school and any resources would be useful.

Look in the credits of any of the current books, and it'll list Gygax and Arneson as the creators of the original game. Do an internet search on the history of D&D, and you'll find something.

There's a bunch of interviews with Gary aroung the internet. Google for "gary gygax interview" and you'll find at least a couple.

Arneson's contribution was more to roleplaying as a whole, than to dungeons and dragons in particular. He's still writing stuff for his Blackmoor campaign though.

But without the concept of roleplaying, there wouldn't be D&D. Plus, I believe he was the first to use things like AC (which comes from some naval war game, IIRC).

Im not saying he wasnt important, since he obviously was. Just that in the creation of the actual D&D game, his contribution was very limited.

Limited contribution?

That's kind of like saying the Romans only made a limited contribution to modern government. ;) :D

Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson co-created the D&D game.

Gary Gygax posts under the pseudonym of "Col_Pladoh" on ENworld and other places. There's a very long running thread in the General Discussion forum on Enworld where fans ask him questions and he answers them. :)

Cheers!

let me clarify.

Arneson was as pivotal as Gygax in creating roleplaying as a phenomenom, arguably even more, as he pioneered many of the ideas.

As for actual D&D writing, Arnesons contribution is bits and pieces of the Blackmoor supplement. Thats pretty much all.

The two are distinct and separate.

I'm sorry to be such an ass, but....
It was Futurama!
(The episode name was Anthology Of Interest I and it aired in Season 2)
Already, has the majestic beauty of that show been overshadowed by the monster that is the Simpsons?
For shame....

(My fault for loving the show to bits and owning all the DVDs. I was however, too lazy to determine the episode code. So there. :D)

You might try doing a specific search of Gamespy.com for the history of D&D, or the history of RPGs. D&D was the first RPG, at least as we define the term today, and every Final Fantasy and whatnot are the direct descendants of D&D. Gamespy once (I can't remember when, at least a year ago) did a week long series of articles on how RPGs started and what they've become now, including interviews with Gygax and Arneson on how D&D evolved out of a midieval setting wargame (one with absolutely no roleplaying aspects whatsoever).
