| Krusk03-23-07, 01:06 PM | I was reading the FAQ update just now and this reference comes up when describing what happens during poison use. "You didn’t ask about what happens if the character accidentally poisons himself with the weapon (by rolling a natural 1 on the attack and failing the DC 15 Reflex save)," Does that suggest a core crit failure? Because up until now i had assumed it was a common houserule. if it is core, can someone direct me to what page/book it is in? Roll a 1, reflex dc 15 or hit self? |
| Loki565403-23-07, 01:10 PM | It is only for poisoned weapons. Perils Of Using Poison A character has a 5% chance of exposing himself to a poison whenever he applies it to a weapon or otherwise readies it for use. Additionally, a character who rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll with a poisoned weapon must make a DC 15 Reflex save or accidentally poison himself with the weapon. A creature with a poison attack is immune to its own poison and the poison of others of its kind. |

This was under the poison description under special abilities and conditions. I'm pretty sure it's also mentioned other times in the actual text of the DMG. |

| StarFyre03-23-07, 01:17 PM | but this could be good for anything...along with any custom roll 1 crit fumbles you may have. First check if hit self..then check if hit anyone else around you; then check if you drop weapon, toss it, etc. And if you do toss it, you could still end up hurting the enemy with throwing damage, etc. Sanjay |

What about a d20+your highest BAB to keep from dropping it, since BAB is supposed to be innate weapon skill? |

What about a d20+your highest BAB to keep from dropping it, since BAB is supposed to be innate weapon skill? It's very hard to create a balanced fumble system. Personally, I don't use them, and when I do, I have characters make a 2nd edition style check vs their BAB. If the d20 role is lower than their BAB, then nothing happens. If not, then use whatever table or effect you prefer. That way high level fighters are much better at avoiding and eventually immune to critical fumbles. |
| Krusk03-24-07, 01:49 AM | No, this would make for an awful fumble system worse than most others ive seen. I was wondering because i like to present players with any houserules before campaigns. So i wanted to make sure they knew crit fumble was houseruled out, if it was core. |
