| princeofcincinnati09-17-06, 12:19 AM | I'm looking for tables. Free ones please. |
| Bulletproof_Condom09-17-06, 12:57 AM | No. |
| Loki565409-17-06, 01:19 AM | No.You tell him, Big Guy! |
| Bulletproof_Condom09-17-06, 01:27 AM | ...I just did. |
| Loki565409-17-06, 01:36 AM | Oh. Well...I...um...ah. You sure told him, Big Guy! |
| TheChilliGod09-17-06, 02:51 AM | Well, that's what I call eager to assist! Now, rather than just shut the OP down for no given reason at all (of course, I know why Bulletproof_Condom said No, because critical hit tables are usually unbalanced and they end up with PC's who are randomly tripped up and hitting themselves with their own weapon and other realistically impossible stuff; and they also create PC's with Improved Critical/Keen Rapiers to take advantage of the über critical rules), I'm actually going to help the OP. Here, have a few critical hit tables. (http://www.dndadventure.com/dnda_dm_resources.html) There's a few somewhere in that resource list. They are fun to look at, at least, but I wouldn't recommend actually using one in a long-lasting game. If you do use them, I'll be looking forward to a thread on What's a Player to Do, complaining about a DM that uses wacko crit rules. |
| princeofcincinnati09-17-06, 10:55 AM | Thanks. I didnt see a fumble table though. |
| WayneTheGame09-17-06, 11:35 AM | What is with the hate of critical hits and fumbles? I understand that they screw over the players more than monsters, and I brought this up to my group but they pointed out that it makes things more realistic because "everyone can fail sometime"; same reason the DM houseruled that a 1 auto-fails a skill check; because otherwise certain skills you would NEVER fail. |
| Bulletproof_Condom09-17-06, 05:12 PM | Now, rather than just shut the OP down for no given reason at all ([freakishly long parenthetical]), I'm actually going to help the OP. You're fired. Clean out your desk and get out. And give me back my stapler. |
| Otto the Bugbear09-17-06, 09:23 PM | A link (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=645294) to this system... For years, I’ve used a critical hit & critical fumble chart (link (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=7852813#post7852813&origin=)). With suggestions from a couple of posters (one who I know personally  ), I’ve decided to make a few changes to this system. Actually, with the amount that it changes, I feel it’s far enough from the original I received back in ‘93 that I can call it my own now. It actually works with the d20 system, instead of applying the d100 system that we used back in 2ed. One last note: Action points now apply, since it’s merely a d20 roll. All I ask is that everyone read it through and think about it. Before the band wagon comes rolling around, I've found that every group I've ever used this with enjoys it. I've also found that it adds to the game session rather than taking away from it. That means it would take a lot to make me scrap this system. Critical Hits A character may critically hit his opponent as described in the PHB. However, if the character rolls a '20' and confirms his threat (using the same attack bonus for the confirm), then he may deal extra damage based on how well he rolled. Note by how much he beat his foe's AC on his confirmation roll and consult the following chart. Critical Hits confirm +3 = add base weapon damage confirm +6 = add base weapon damage and gain +1 to his next attack this round. confirm +9 = add base weapon damage x2 confirm +12 = add base weapon damage x2 and gain +2 to his next attack this round. confirm +15 = add base weapon damage x3 confirm +18 = add base weapon damage x3 and gain +3 to his next attack this round. confirm +21 = add base weapon damage x4 confirm +24 = add base weapon damage x4 and gain +4 to his next attack this round. Extend this chart as necessary for confirmation rolls that exceed +24. The extra damage gained from this is the base weapon damage only. This does not include any extra damage from feats, magical enhancements, spells, or any other source. For example: Otto the Bugbear rolls a ‘20’ with his longsword +3 (1d8+9 (+3 weapon, +6 str): 19-20/x2). His confirmation roll exceeds the AC of the target by 16. He receives his normal critical hit damage (2d8+18) and in addition to that, he deals an extra 3d8 damage. If his confirmation roll had exceeded the AC of the target by 18, he would receive the same extra damage PLUS get a +3 bonus to his next attack roll this round. Had he rolled a ‘19’ and confirmed, he would receive his normal critical hit damage, but would not roll on this chart. Critical Fumbles Each character is assigned a Fumble Avoidance DC. The formula to calculate this DC is: 15 + 1/5 the character’s level (round down). When a character rolls a ‘1’ on his attack roll, he has a chance to fumble. He must make an Avoidance Roll to avoid the fumble: d20 + his highest attack bonus of that round v. his Fumble Avoidance DC. If he equals or exceeds the target number, he avoids the fumble. If his avoidance roll is lower than the DC, note by how much he missed and consult the following chart: Critical Mishaps missed by 1 = Your attack routine gets messed up. You suffer a -2 to hit until the beginning of your next turn unless you make a Fort save, DC 12. missed by 2 = Your grip on your weapon falters. If your opponent attempts a disarm before the beginning of your next turn, you suffer a -4 penalty to the opposed roll. missed by 3 = Your shield arm becomes numb until the beginning of your next turn. You retain half your shield bonus to AC. missed by 4 = You are off balance. Your AC suffers a -3 penalty for until the beginning of your next turn unless you make a Ref save, DC 13 to avoid. missed by 5 = You sprain something. You suffer 2 points of subdual damage. missed by 6 = You leave your weapon vulnerable to a sunder attempt. If a foe attempts to sunder your weapon before the beginning of your next turn, you suffer a -4 penalty to your opposed roll. missed by 7 = Debris gets in your eyes. You are dazzled until the beginning of your next turn. missed by 8 = You provoke an AoO from a single opponent (rolled randomly). missed by 9 = You moderately sprain something. You suffer 4 points of subdual damage. missed by 10 = You are severely off balance. Your AC suffers a -5 penalty until your next turn unless you make a Ref save, DC 15 to avoid. missed by 11 = Your strike is jarringly bad. You break your weapon unless you succeed on a Ref save, DC 12. missed by 12 = Dirt and sand gets in your eyes. You suffer double the standard penalty for being dazzled for 1d4 rounds. missed by 13 = You provoke an AoO from two opponents (rolled randomly) missed by 14 = You are slightly stunned. You suffer a -4 to hit and -6 AC until the beginning of your next turn unless you make a Fort save, DC 16 to negate. You suffer no other affects of being stunned (described in the PHB). missed by 15+ = You are flat-footed for 1d4 rounds unless you make a Ref save, DC 20. You can attempt the save each round on your turn to negate this penalty. A character with the Improved Critical feat may decrease his Critical Mishap roll by a number of steps equal to up to half his BAB (round down). For example, Otto the Bugbear has an attack sequence of +11/+11/+6 (his ECL is 6). For his third attack, he rolls a ‘1’ and has a chance to fumble. He rolls a d20 and gets a ‘2’ + 11 (best attack bonus that round) = 13 v. a Fumble Avoidance DC of 16 and he fumbles. He missed the target DC by 3, he uses the ‘missed by 3’ result. If that result doesn’t make sense, the DM should use any of the lower ‘missed by’ results (in this case, ‘missed by 2’ or ‘missed by 1’). Cheers Otto :) |
| AZNsupermarket09-17-06, 11:21 PM | You're fired. Clean out your desk and get out. And give me back my stapler. I don't think he'll realize he's been fired even if you stop sending him paychecks :P |
| TheChilliGod09-18-06, 12:58 AM | Thanks. I didnt see a fumble table though. Most of the critical hit tables in there come with fumble tables of their own. I checked. You're fired. Clean out your desk and get out. And give me back my stapler. You can't fire me, I quit! And, just to spite you, I've used up all the staples in your stapler! How does that feel, huh?!? :evillaugh |
