| Crimson_Concerto04-24-08, 08:20 PM | Critical hits and misses are randomly generated by rolling a D20 to attack. If you roll a 1, you get a critical miss, and if you roll a 20, you get a critical hit (though some weapons let you get critical hits on more numbers). :P That being said, if what you're looking for is a table of stuff that gets you extra benefits on critical hits or extra detriments on critical fails... well those just aren't a good idea... |

Well, we are a very fun oriented group. It actually works for us. :D |

| Mock2604-24-08, 10:53 PM | Most critical fail systems for combat are inherently flawed because the better someone gets the more likely it is that they will have a critical failure because they will be making more attacks per round. I think that there should always be a chance of a critical failure in combat but I think that any chart should be a percentile chart and as the character progresses in levels the chance of more severe crits should diminish. For example, I have a chart that has multiple outcomes (though none of them involve stabbing yourself or stabbing a comrade) that range from being caught flat footed and giving an attack of opportunity to your opponent to momentarily losing balance/grip on the weapon, -1 to next attack. The most detriimental outcome is at the bottom of the chart. As characters go up in level they add their level to the die roll, so that by the time they are 3rd level the worst outcome is no longer possible. |
