It's usually a short diversion from the campaign with the same characters, but heavy on the creepy imagery and usually involves lots of undead. This year I'm thinking of created a god whose power only manifests on a certain in-game holiday, "Festus Mortis" that happens to coincide with the real Halloween. He will look a little bit like the grim reaper, but with a pumpkin head with a fiery visage carved into it. He is a trickster, who likes to swap the consciousness of two individuals, but his power (and the swap) only lasts from sunset to sunrise on his holiday. So this halloween, I'll draw up six kobold characters and have the characters roll 1d6 to see which one they are "swapped" with. A roll of 1 will be a child kobold, 6 will be a battlemaster kobold, and the other 4 will be average kobolds with some a level or two in a random class level I'll decide later (likely warriors, adepts, sorcerors, trapmakers and the like). There are 5 players, so one will not be used. The now kobold characters will be charged with a mission of some sort, and have only the duration of the night to complete it. If they are succesful, their real characters will get a reward. I was thinking of a mask. The players would only get the name and description of the mask, and find out it's ability after they chose. These masks are enchanted to only be able to be used by the person they are intended for. To anyone else they are of no additional value than a mundane mask. Mummy Mask: It is a scary face made of plaster and wrapped in bandages. Grants the ability to use scare as a spell-like ability once per day Doppleganger Mask: Looks like a clear glass mask. Grants the ability to use Disguise Self as a spell-like ability once per day. Clown Mask: It is a ceramic mask painted to look like a laughing clown. Grants the ability to use Hideous Laughter as a spell-like ability once per day Bat Mask: It is made of fur and has a bat-like face, complete with large ears. Grants a +5 to listen checks while donned Spider Mask: This mask is merely webbing that partially obscures the wearer's face with realistic looking spider webs. It grants the ability to use web as a spell-like ability once per day Skeleton Mask: This mask looks like a skull staring with broad, vacant eyes. Grants the ability to use Command Undead as a spell-like ability once per day |
