06-01-05, 03:14 AM I would have to agree on the minimum of 10 stats......I've played characters with stats below 10 and had fun with them, but the whole point of being a PC is that you are slightly above average the normal, run-of-the-mill NPC's.

A modifier of -1 is fine in one or two stats I suppose, but going below 8 in a human based campaign can really start to subvert the whole point of being someone worth a bit more than the next. It usually helps if there are some better modifiers to go along with it.

So, no........you are not an "äbhorent powergamer" for prefering minimum stats of 10's in my books at least. :)

And some think the only characters worth playing have no stats lower than 10 - and they can be just as insulting.

But this is true of many subjects. Some people like high magic, others like low. Some people like combat and tactics, others like roleplaying and high drama. Some people like to ardently obey the rules of science in a fantasy game, and others see the futility in such an outlook. High level, low level; humans, monsters; Core RAW only, house rules and supplements allowed - some people are acidic, others are basic, and whenever the two meet there's bound to be a violent reaction.

But whining about complaining, and complaining about whining? The inherent hypocritical irony is enough to make one's paradox implode. ;)

I think your sniffer's broken (or perhaps prescient), but I agree that the nature of this thread will inevitably lead to flames - and largely for reasons I pointed out. People on one side of a complaint will be countered by people from the other side; someone on one side or the other will say something that is (or is taken as) snide/insulting; this will prompt someone on the opposing side to retaliate in like kind rather than remaining reasonable (some would justify this as having just cause, but the CoC and WizO's would likely disagree on that point) and the flames will fan out from there.

06-01-05, 07:02 AM When it comes to stats, i think it's up to the person and group, since the whole reason you play is to have fun it doesn't really matter if you make sure you have decent stats if you don't like playing with poor ones. There is a challenge in having poor stats, but it can get boring and irritating failing all the time, and having great stats can ruin the game because you either find everything really easy, or your group can't deal with the challenges the DM has to set up so that they challenge this one superhero. And since most groups are friends it shouldn't really be an issue.

If you dont want your PC's to die at all, dont create adventures that involve a lot of danger

Everyone has an equal right to an opinion, but a very good many people I encounter really have no substance to what they believe at all. Their opinions are either utterly logically flawed beyond all level of reasoning, outrageously biased, irrelevant to the topic or just meaningless collections of phrases that they probably overheard and thought sounded good.

I really don't like having to say to people 'I am sorry that you can't understand this type of thing, but this thread is going to continue on regardless of your shortcomings' or simply stating, after they have posted some dismally written attempt to keep up, that what they have said has no relevance or simply doesn't make any sense. Writing a sentence is not the same thing as making a point, but many people can't grasp that. And then to top it off they come back and say that what I have said is merely an opinion with no greater validity than theirs. When in actuality they have not even separated my opinion from the given facts. Sigh. I just hate people who try and get involved in discussions that are out of their intellectual depth. They slow everyone else down. We should have a 'colouring in' message board for people like that.

I know, I know, I am an intellectual snob, but I should be allowed to discuss things at my level too sometimes.

I so want a colouring message board now, that would kick :censored:

Colour in the smiley page, or play with people avatars like drawing silly moustaches on posters that happen to be annoying you at the time, or posting ideas in a visual format....."ä picture is worth a thousand words", or some intellectual nonesense like that :D

It would be an amazing way for people on the boards to get a little stress relief without having to jump down the throats of other posters.

I so want a colouring message board now, that would kick :censored: Colour in the smiley page, or play with people avatars like drawing silly moustaches on posters that happen to be annoying you at the time, or posting ideas in a visual format....."ä picture is worth a thousand words", or some intellectual nonesense like that :D It would be an amazing way for people on the boards to get a little stress relief without having to jump down the throats of other posters.
