Tougher skin, better at defensive movement, stench makes the attacker less effective, whatever makes the most sense to you. |

Troglodytes aren't real; as such, there is no basis for "reasoning behind" it. It is what it is because the designers made it so. A natural armor bonus improves Armor Class resulting from a creature's naturally tough hide. Troglodytes have naturally tougher hide than crocodiles. |
| BugBytes03-23-08, 01:46 PM | The troglodite is more agile. They can walk bipedally, giving them a better Dexterity bonus. They also have apposable thumbs, allowing them to carry items and therefore defend themselves with sheilds and whatnot. |

Anyway, a Trog has a higher natural armor bonus because each is balanced to have an AC at a certain level, and because they are NOT balanced against each other. |
| pigknight03-23-08, 11:18 PM | ...And a trog is just a bipedial croc on roids. |
| louieratt03-24-08, 09:09 AM | in game terms as a dm i would reason that since trogs have a patron god anything making it better than a non magical int animal would be gifted from there god |
| Naderion03-24-08, 10:08 AM | The real reason: Different designers made the stats for the crocodile and the troglodyte and didn't compare their creations with every other creature in the MM before it got into printing. |

Just to be sure, you're looking at the image in the MM, and not confusing the name with this bird (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troglodytes_%28wren%29)? Because if you were looking in the SRD, and had no image for reference, I could see where the confusion would come from. | nightwyrm03-25-08, 02:27 AM | I don't know...the bird looks pretty badass to me. :D |
| Aryxbez03-25-08, 02:56 AM | ...And a trog is just a bipedial croc on roids. I agree with This guy on this one, otherwise it's been explained, tis for encounter balance. |
| 0dan03-28-08, 03:17 PM | i agree with nightwyrm. that bird does look pretty bad ass! :P |
| Reality_Czech03-28-08, 03:22 PM | I'd say if a Trog had denser muscle tissue than the Crocodile, the blows might do less, even if the Croc's hide were thicker. I'd say that's the simplest mechanical/physiological explanation that dosen't require much suspension of disbelief. |
