| Sabr2th07-11-05, 02:59 AM | I think that this one has been done before. But I am still curious....What do YOU think would happen if Saaaayyyyy: A silver and a blue mated? A white and a red? Throw together your combos (Good and Evil Mixes definitely allowed). Have fun with it.... |
| Arklich07-11-05, 04:02 AM | Black + White = Chess Dragon? :D Sorry, i couldn't resist |
| Venom of the Yuan Ti07-11-05, 04:07 AM | Take the mother's type (this is to avoid issues such as having eggs too large for her) and then add the half (father's type) dragon template. Its not perfect but it works out OK. |
| Flushmaster07-11-05, 05:06 AM | Take the mother's type (this is to avoid issues such as having eggs too large for her) and then add the half (father's type) dragon template. Its not perfect but it works out OK. Actually, the only things worth adding from the template would be the father's breath weapon and energy immunity. Natural attacks, natural armor, ability enhancements, etc for being a half dragon are more than covered by and even surpassed by the fact that they are already a dragon, with no "half" in front of it (even a white dragon is stronger than a half red dragon/half [insert weaker species here]). I like the chess dragon idea; along the same line of thinking, red and black would be checkers. Red and green could be a Christmas dragon, or red and white for Santa dragons. |
| Stuntman07-11-05, 12:23 PM | What do YOU think would happen if Saaaayyyyy: ... A white and a red? If you mate a white and a red dragon, you get a pink dragon. Instead of breathing fire or frost, it'll breath steam. |
| weasel fierce07-12-05, 04:25 AM | A paladin would smite them, while they are mating, earning double XP |
| sabrewolf07-12-05, 05:01 AM | Hmmm.. That´s one question that crossed my mind before. Once i considered playing a White and choosing an odd for a mate in his future, a blue possibly. Am still to play him though.. The ´half-dragon´ idea would be a way to handle it - fast and easy - though instead of applying it to the mother´s type i´d apply to the weaker of the two. It might result in a slightly larger egg, and surely less eggs in a clutch. Another way would be comparing the stat tables for both dragosn and placing the offsprings somewhere in between - would need more work - and give them double imunities and breath weapons. For and spell-like and special abilities i´d give them something unique based on the elemental mix they represent: Say, a Silver and a Blue mated? They´d hatch a Storm dragon.. My White and a Blue? A variant of the storm one, a Blizzard dragon.. White and Red? If they dont tear each other to bits and actually mate and have offspring, Steam dragon sounds like it.. To Flushmaster´s crossbreeds names:  |
| Arklich07-12-05, 08:20 AM | ...and thus a new legend is born: Santa Dragon and his half-dragon elves fly in the night of Dragonmas to spread joy, snow and fire upon all! Hurray for fiery gifts and frostbite! |
| qstor07-12-05, 12:17 PM | There were 2e crossbreeds for the chromatic dragons in Dragon#248 with the orange, yellow and purple dragons. Mike |
| Lycanthromancer07-12-05, 05:57 PM | If you tried to cross, say, a black and a white, wouldn't they implode? |
| Ront Iron-Roar07-12-05, 11:04 PM | I remember, seeing a Black/white mix called a Skunk Dragon. Combined the ascpects of both species. It had two breath weapons a line of acid slush (did half cold and then half acid) Then a cone of acidic frost, did cold the first round when it was breath and then it did acid damage the next turn. But, here's my idea using my first rp character on MSN, who was revamped several times. Obsidian/ Ectoplasmic, breath weapon was a white hot flame, trailing globules of burning ectoplasm. Kinda like Napalm, then he'd be able to manipulate it into a spray of ectoplasm that ignited as soon as it hit. |
| braindead34507-13-05, 03:01 AM | IMO, Most dragons are super intelligent and a bit egocentric. They tend to see their race as the best, but their own type as better than the others. A dragon would see its responsiblity to preserve their own kind. They would, therefor, not intentionally breed with an inferior (i.e. a different species of dragon). Before, you start flaming me about those with dragon blood; I consider them to be the result of dragons having recreational sex, nothing to do with the preservation of the genetic stock. |
| Antioch07-13-05, 03:20 AM | Hrmm, the Draconomicon seems decidely silent on this topic, so my ruling is that either two dragons of different types cannot produce offspring, or that the result possesses an equal chance of being one or the other. |
| Lycanthromancer07-13-05, 12:06 PM | What happens if two polymorphed dragons using spells like nondetection, etc, end up having "recreational sex" with each other? Then you'd end up with a mixture of these two dragon types (perhaps born in humanoid form, considering). |
| braindead34507-14-05, 10:15 PM | What happens if two polymorphed dragons using spells like nondetection, etc, end up having "recreational sex" with each other? Then you'd end up with a mixture of these two dragon types (perhaps born in humanoid form, considering. Evil dragons would just kill the offspring. Otherwise, you could just rule either the dragons can't crossbreed or the result is the same type as the mother (even though this is not 100% real world accurate). |
| Lycanthromancer07-14-05, 10:35 PM | Why would most care, really? Even if they KNEW there were offspring, I doubt that they would find enough threat in a creature that was so relatively weak in comparison to them, that would probably be guarded by a very powerful mother (if, of course, the mother was good). If the mother was evil, THAT I would understand. |
| Arishem07-14-05, 10:39 PM | Evil dragons would just kill the offspring. Otherwise, you could just rule either the dragons can't crossbreed or the result is the same type as the mother (even though this is not 100% real world accurate) . LOL, what about this thread IS 100% real world accurate....i mean were talking about dragon cross-breading |
| Nerpherder07-15-05, 01:26 PM | You could choose the main dragon type, then use a bloodline from the Unearthed Arcana of the other dragon. Say a Red dragon with a silver dragon bloodline. |
| Bra'k'aern07-16-05, 04:33 AM | I remember seeing a 3rd ed. supplement series called The Slayers Guide to (misc. moster). Anyway I'm quite sure the one on dragons had cross breeds. Most of the breath weapons were nasty mixes rather than one or the other or being able to breath both, i.e. a black/red hybrid's breath weapon would be half acid and half fire damage. |
| Salla07-16-05, 05:29 PM | For myself, I'd make the hatching the same race as the mother, but give it the Half-Dragon template for the father. |
| 9mm of Mercy07-16-05, 07:37 PM | I'd just apply an order of genetic dominance. Something simple like the average CR would suffice. You'd have red dragons more than anything else because they can outbreed the others. Then Silvers and Golds (I think), and so on and so forth. |
| Sabr2th07-21-05, 12:59 AM | [FONT=Arial] In a kingdom where the king just recently took on another advisor (to whom he seems to listen to more than anyone else). The advisor and a new maiden in waiting decide to get it on. Later the maid comes to him....: Rising from his chair "You're Whhaaaaaat! Yoooouu foolish child, you have emabarrased me and now you will pay the Price!" <He polymorphs into a Young Adult Red Dragon! Suddenly, She polymorphs into a Young Adult Gold Dragon.....They look at each other, quickly polymorph into their human forms...."Ahhh Drusellia....we won't be talking to anyone else for a while will we?" "Definitely NOT about this, Carrastanza!" Both walk away;.....Quickly.... |
| Edymnion07-21-05, 01:12 AM | Take the mother's type (this is to avoid issues such as having eggs too large for her) and then add the half (father's type) dragon template. Its not perfect but it works out OK.And that is the correct answer. You apply the half-dragon template of the father onto the base type of the mother. |
| DDogwood07-21-05, 11:50 AM | The Chromatic dragons are easy enough, as long as you can figure out what the stats for a Yellow Dragon are. Red + Blue = Purple Dragon Red + Yellow = Orange Dragon Blue + Yellow = Green Dragon (Green Dragons don't like to admit that they started as crossbreeds) Black + White = Gray Dragon (or Grey Dragon, which is very similar) Black + Red = Dark Red Dragon (like a Red, but eviller) Black + Orange = Brown Dragon (see below) Black + Yellow = Brown Dragon (see below) Black + Green = Forest Green Dragon (like a Green, but deeper in the forest) Black + Blue = Navy Dragon (lives underwater) Black + Purple = Jabberwocky White + Red = Pink Dragon (look cuddly, but they are extra fierce) White + Orange = Peach Dragon (see Pink Dragon) White + Yellow = Radiant Dragon (so evil, it pretends to be good; often mistaken for a Gold Dragon) White + Green = Mint Dragon (has extra fresh breath weapon) White + Blue = Sky Dragon (lives in clouds) White + Purple = Fuschia Dragon (see Pink Dragon; currently popular with teenage girls) Any other mix = Brown Dragon (Brown Dragons are reviled as horrible mixed blood abominations by other Dragons, who hunt them down and kill them on sight. That is why you see so few. Because Orange and Yellow Dragons are most often blamed for their existence, these other Dragons are also fairly scarce - that is why they aren't in the Monster Manual) Metallic Dragons are more of a problem. -Copper, Gold, and Silver Dragons are purebreds. -Brass Dragons are the descendants of Copper and Silver Dragons. -Bronze Dragons are descended from Copper Dragons mating with the now-extinct Tin Dragon (Tin Dragons were not very tough, and were killed by stone-age adventuring parties); some Draconologists suggest that Bronze Dragons are just Brown Dragons who use lots of scale polish. -Silver and Gold Dragons rarely mate, but when they do, they produce the very rare Electrum Dragon. Hope this helps! |
