It is a huge octopus-headed creature with little wings. He's currently sleeping in R'leyh. He is a magnificently horrible monstrosity that people insist on cutifying, because I believe it is the only way they may look upon him without going insane. Hence Pokethulhu, stuffed animal cthulhu, and cthulhu slippers. I am a huge HPL fan, and highly recommend his short stories. His works have heavily influenced many popular horror writers and there was a whole issue on HPL's influence on Dungeons and Dragons in an issue of Dragon Magazine a few years ago. You should be able to check out a collection of his work from the library and read the story "Call of Cthulhu" to get more info. HTH...

Sadly, there was a misunderstanding over the right to use the Cthulhu stuff and that version of the book was discontinued.

So saying (or typing) might cause Cthulhu to awaken and spread Cthulhu-ish horror across the realms. Cthulhu has been said 7 times in this Cthulhu-y post.
