That said I got this really good idea (at least in my mind) about a storyline in Eberron. What I have worked out so far is that the campaign would be not based in Sharn (I am growing tired of that city). Rather it would start either in the Shadow Marches or in the Eldeen (spelling?) Reaches, which would make it a Druidic campaign. Of course with this certain classes would not be allowed for flavor reasons but I have plenty of other books to make up for it. There are still possibilities to have the whole pick of Adventurer, Arcane, Divine, and Warrior-esque classes without too much problem. The big idea is that the Cult of the Dragon below has somehow (which I would need help rationalizing why, at least a DM rationalization) found out that the Tarrasque is the aspect of The Dragon Below (Khyber)! Their main goal is to find out how to release the Tarrasque and eventually Khyber him/her/it-self. Of course because of the campaign's setting and flavor the PCs would be in the druid sect: The Gatekeepers. I would like to take this campaign to an appropriate level (18-20 roughly) so that it is worthwhile. But I want the campaign to start at fifth level, as it suggests in Faiths of Eberron that it would be rare to have any non-leader Gatekeepers above fifth level. What I need the most help with is the following: -Monsters: A theme (aberrations & outsiders & magical creatures in the mix), I know the stock creatures that run around with the Cult of the Dragon Below but some other ideas that would be "Eberron" would be nice, from any of the first four Monster Manuals. -Adventure Pacing: Personally I have been a DM that likes fast play, although I don't mind slowing down, but because I am in college and for some reason after a quarter here is done, we start a new campaign. I am going to suggest that we change that, hopefully. I also want the PCs to seem like they are accomplishing something but are always a step behind the Cult of the Dragon Below. Would it be better to have a story branch stating that if the PC's accomplish X then Y (favorable outcome), or Z (unfavorable outcome) happens? Or, just have the PC's always be a step behind? How can I portray that in a story text to make it not discourage the players? -Places: I have a few places I want the PCs to travel to. Namely: The Demon Wastes, Sharn (I know that I said I was tired of the city, but it serves a specific purpose with the story), and Xen'drik (resting place of the Terrasque). With the fact that this campaign would be of 10+ levels it would either require more time in each of these areas or going to more areas. -Flavor: I have been DM'ing for a while, not a long time but on and off for about three years. I know, you all might be thinking three years and he isn't that experienced?! I know there will always be room to become a better DM, and for that I know that I will have to keep DM'ing. But it never hurts to get help from those that know more than you. If this post either confused you or you want more information because you are interested in helping, asking for something is no problem. That’s what I did. Thank you for your time. -AScarecrowsSmile |
