| Shlohloh05-30-07, 09:19 PM | Hey UM i keep hearing a suprising rumor and im looking to hear from some one at least some what official about it. ( it makes a big impact on a project I'm involved with ). SImply the rumor is less then a year till you release 4E. THis makes a big difference to alot of us espcialy since we are buying alot of 3.5 products. |
| Razz05-30-07, 09:32 PM | Dude, don't worry. There's no 4E coming any time soon. You can breathe easier now, trust me. If 4E were to come anytime soon, you can kiss D&D goodbye. |
| Shlohloh05-30-07, 09:36 PM | Good I hope not since im already breaking the bank keeping up on 3.5 ( and i havent even gotten into ebberon or FR |
| Araxiss05-30-07, 10:00 PM | From what I hear WotC stopped publishing 2nd Ed. stuff a good 2 years before 3rd Ed was rolled out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |
| Prof. Pacali05-30-07, 10:43 PM | Actually you are wrong. They published at least three or four 2E titles, like Die Vecna! Die! a few months before 3E was premiered at Gencon. What you're probably thinking of is the dry spell, when TSR couldn't afford to pay the printers back in the '90's. |
| Capt. Pixel05-31-07, 12:39 AM | IT's TRUE!! Don't buy anything 3.5 'cause in eight months it'll all be superceded and rendered obsolete by the release of 4.0 (PHB,DMG and MM) |
| CCS05-31-07, 01:09 AM | If 4E were to come anytime soon, you can kiss D&D goodbye. You exagerate. And badly at that. Even if 4E were to spring forth next week, all that would happen would be that we'd lose a chunk of nay-sayers and less than serious gamers. Hell, not even complete cessation of publishing would spell the death of this game.... |
| Prof. Pacali05-31-07, 08:52 AM | For me there are two issues that I'm concerned with about a potential 4th edition: how much does it cost, and are the rules an improvement over what's currently available. Given the increase in the cost of printing, the first one is the more serious concern for me. When 3.0 came out WotC was kind enough to keep the price down for a few months, to give us a chance to try the new rules. (They also released the SRD for free, which they may not do in 4E.) I don't know whether Hasbro will let them keep the price as low as they did back in 2000, or if the constant increase in printing prices will make that financially untenable for WotC. I don't currently have enough disposable income to buy 3 $34.95 books at the drop of a hat. (That's one of the reasons I delayed going from 3.0 to 3.5 for almost a year and a half.) As for the quality of the game, if they implement some of the changes from Star Wars SECR, it may be a good direction. (Not all of the changes that were made to SECR may be good, but talent trees and skill consolidation might be good moves.) |
| Steely_Dan05-31-07, 08:59 AM | As for the quality of the game, if they implement some of the changes from Star Wars SECR, it may be a good direction. God willing. I have already implemented many of the Saga system changes into my D&D Planescape campaign – awesome! |
| Prof. Pacali05-31-07, 09:04 AM | God willing. I have already implemented many of the Saga system changes into my D&D Planescape campaign – awesome! I was discussing the possibility of SECR changes becoming part of a potential 4E on Monday with some other players, and the issue of iterative attacks was brought up. SECR does away with them (and with the bonus attack from Rapid Shot), in order to reflect the nature of combat in the Star Wars films, as opposed to the typical D&D game. Is this one of the changes you made? If so, what impact has it had on combat? I realize it's probably too soon to tell, but I imagine many combats last longer. I wish I could find out for myself, but Monsieurs Barnes and Noble haven't delivered me my copy of the SECR yet. :( |
| Steely_Dan05-31-07, 09:25 AM | 1.) and the issue of iterative attacks was brought up. SECR does away with them. Is this one of the changes you made? 2.) If so, what impact has it had on combat? 1.) Yes, but: Double Attack You can make and addition attack during a round of combat. Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6, proficient with chosen weapon. Benefit: Choose a single exotic weapon or one of the following weapon groups: advanced melee weapons, heavy weapons, lightsabers, pistols, rifles, simple weapons. When you use the full attack action, you may make one additional attack when wielding such a weapon. However, you take a -5 penalty on all attack rolls until your next turn because you're trading precision for speed. Normal: Making a single attack is a standard action. Special: You may select this feat multiple times. Each time you select this feat, it applies to a different exotic weapon or weapon group. Triple Attack Attack You can make and addition attack during a round of combat. Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +11, proficient with chosen weapon. Benefit: Choose a single exotic weapon or one of the following weapon groups: advanced melee weapons, heavy weapons, lightsabers, pistols, rifles, simple weapons. When you use the full attack action, you may make two additional attacks when wielding such a weapon. However, you take a -10 penalty on all attack rolls until your next turn because you're trading precision for speed. Normal: Making a single attack is a standard action. Special: You may select this feat multiple times. Each time you select this feat, it applies to a different exotic weapon or weapon group. Dual Weapon Mastery I You are adept at fighting with two weapons and double weapons. Prerequisite: Dexterity 13, base attack bonus +1 Benefit: When you attack with two weapons or with both ends of a double weapon as a part of a full attack action, you take a -5 penalty (instead of the -10 penalty) on all attack rolls until the start of your next turn. You only gain this reduced penalty if you are wielding a weapon with which you are proficient. Normal: If you use a full attack action to make more than one attack on your turn, you take a -10 penalty on all attack rolls for the round Dual Weapon Mastery II You are adept at fighting with two weapons and double weapons. Prerequisite: Dexterity 13, base attack bonus +1 Benefit: When you attack with two weapons or with both ends of a double weapon as a part of a full attack action, you take a -2 penalty (instead of the -10 penalty) on all attack rolls until the start of your next turn. You only gain this reduced penalty if you are wielding a weapon with which you are proficient. Normal: If you use a full attack action to make more than one attack on your turn, you take a -10 penalty on all attack rolls for the round Dual Weapon Mastery III You are adept at fighting with two weapons and double weapons. Prerequisite: Dexterity 13, base attack bonus +1 Benefit: When you attack with two weapons or with both ends of a double weapon as a part of a full attack action. You only gain this reduced penalty if you are wielding a weapon with which you are proficient. Normal: If you use a full attack action to make more than one attack on your turn, you take a -10 penalty on all attack rolls for the round Mighty Swing You are capable of delivering jarring melee attacks. Prerequisites: Strength 13 Benefit: You can spend two swift actions in the same round to deal +1 die of damage on your next melee attack in the same round. The effects of this feat do not stack with the extra damage provided by the Rapid Strike feat. Sniper Prerequisites: Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, base attack bonus +4 Benefit: You Always ignore soft cover (that is, cover provided by a character, creature, or droid) when you make a range attack. Normal: You can only ignore cover if you aim before making a ranged attack Rapid Strike Prereq: Dex 13, base attack bonus +1, proficient with weapon. Benefit: When using a melee weapon, you may make two strike as a single attack against a single target. You take a -2 penalty on your attack roll, but you dealt +1 die of damage with a successful attack. The effect of the feat do not stack with the extra damage provided by the Might Swing Feat Running Attack You can move as you attack. Prerequisite: Dexterity 13. Benefit: When making an attack with a melee or ranged weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed. Whirlwind Attack You can strke nearby opponents ina amazin, spinning melee attack. Prerequisites: Dexterity 13, Intelligence 13, Melee Defense, base attack bonus +4 Benefit: As a full-round action, you can make an area attack with your melee weapon, stiking every opponent within your reach. This whirlwind attack uses the area attack rules; you make one attack roll and apply the result to every target in range. Area Attacks Certain weapons and effects, such as grenades, autofire weapons, or the Force slam power, target all creatures in a given area instead of a single target. When you make an area attack, you make a single attack roll and compare the result to the Ref Defense of every target in the area. Creatues you hit take full damage, and creatures you miss take half damage." Withdraw You can withdraw from combat as a move action. To withdraw, the first 1 square of your movement must take you out of you opponent's threatened area by the shortest possible route. If you must move more than 1 square to escape the threatened area, you can't withdraw. You can move normally (take a move action) in order to escape an opponent, but you provoke an attack of opportunity when doing so. Once you clear the threatened area, you may continue to move, up to a total of half your speed. You can disengage from more than one opponent in the same action, but only if you can clear all threatened areas in your first 1 square movement. Disengaging protects you from attacks of opportunity during your first square of movement, but you may provoke attacks of opportunity later in your turn (for example, you may move through another character's threatened area). 2.) More movement, more dramatic, less like chess and much more fun and exciting. P.S. To the WizO's: Sorry if I overstepped the OGL bounds, but the info (feats etc) I have given is all quoted from the Star Wars boards. |
| Razz06-01-07, 02:00 PM | It's simple what I'd do when 4E is released: Buy up all the remaining 3.5 books coming out before 4E. Begin pirating 4E books in protest to WotC. Simple and efficient. :P |
| hobbit for hire06-01-07, 02:23 PM | I have it from a reliable source that the 4e player's handbook is scheduled for a summer release in 2008. |
| Razz06-01-07, 03:09 PM | I have it from a reliable source that the 4e player's handbook is scheduled for a summer release in 2008. Who is this reliable source? Sorry if I have to take what you say with a grain of salt, but many people have claimed to have an "inside source" and turns out they're just trolling. |
| navar10006-01-07, 04:26 PM | Wizards of the Coast must be regretting their April Fool's prank. It was a good and funny idea, but the monster has grown. |

| Shlohloh06-01-07, 05:11 PM | HMmm sadly the ones who could sqaush this are silent. Why must you leave us in the dark. NO we are forsaken WotC now. NO probably not but it would be nice to get some sort of wizo comment even if it is the cold war line . "We can assure you that at this time we are taking the official stance of NO COMMENT. Though unoffcialy we can say that there have been rumors about this." |

Because if there is a hypothetical 4E in the works, the employees of WotC would be under a non-disclosure agreement until the company announces said hypothetical 4E. |
| Shlohloh06-02-07, 10:52 PM | very true |
