Alright, so in our last adventure, our group fighter picked up a longbow, cursed -1 (but delusion curse so he got it identified and it identified as a +1).
now did i do that correctly w/the identify? b/c an identify spell wont identify that it's a cursed item correct?
Anyways also he wants to sell it anyways as it's not a composite longbow and he has a STR of 18.
so for selling it, assuming the shopkeeper doesn't know it's cursed and assumes it's magical he could get the full price for selling a magical +1 weapons (1025 or so?).
just curious on input thanks

As for handling the identify, I would say you handled it just fine.

Regarding the curse, unless the item has a compulsion on the owner, you are correct... neither the owner nor the purchaser is likely to know it is cursed.

Now I have a question for you... why did the creator make a cursed longbow -1? They are not just created on a whim. Who was this made for? Why? And how did it end up in the hands of someone other than the intended owner? Cursed items are purposely generated, and most should have a story. :tiphat:

well i rolled it randomly... thats the background.
I think i'm carrying this over from 2E (i vaugely remember reading it somewhere) 5% of random magic items are cursed.
so. i rolled up weapon, got it cursed, deludes the weilder into thinking he/she has a +1 longbow.

there is zero backstory for this one lol.
and it doesn't matter b/c the pc's gonna sell it once they get back to town anyways.
He's happier w/a compisite longbow.

Here's your backstory: It was designed by some teenage gnomes to prank their elf friend. He's a really good shot, and he prizes his +1 longbow. They wanted to curse the elf's bow, but he never takes it off. So they design a curse applied to a different bow. Whenever the cursed bow come into contact with another bow, the curse transfers. They built an entirely different bow, and then stealthily touched it to the elf's, and his bow absorbed the curse. After noticing what a bad shot he became, he attempted to get the bow restrung. As the restringer's, the bow came in contact with a totally different bow while on the work table. That bow became the new cursed bow.

The end result, when your fighter sells the old bow and buys the composite bow, they physically touch while on the sales counter. The curse transfers to his new bow, and your fun is prolonged.

Very good. Make sure you apply this same risk of transfer to the party's efforts to rid itself of the bow.

I might do that curse transfer for a future item when the party is higher level and can survive w/out a meat shield. this one was just rolled as a fluke.
Also, he's the partys one and only melee machine (next best meat shield is a cleric and he's busy keeping everyone alive).
so I dont think i'll be cruel enough (yet lol) to assign them into oblivion... and trust me they WILL die w/out the barbarian front and center.
it's a barbarian, rogue (with a solid NINE hp at level 3 :S), and a dragon shaman that cannot hit anything (2 sessions. MAYBE hit one creature lol it's horribly bad dice rolls for her).
