I remember using 2d10s, one numbered 0~9, and the other 00~90. but is a 00 and a 0 100? Do you let 0=10? Sorry to bother for such a trivial matter, but it bothers me that I can't remember something so small. (Grumble.... gonna get meself a d100 one day.....) |

| Someone03-21-07, 01:35 PM | Sort of. If you're using dice labeled 1-10, just have 10 = 0. When the "tens" d10 is a 10, you end up with 1-9. But if the "ones" d10 is also a 10, you have 100. You basically set 0 to equal 100. There are also fancy dice labeled 00-90, so you can roll them with a normal d10 at the same time, and just add them up- i.e. 90 + 10 = 100. Or one of those whopping huge 100-sided dice. |

Standard d10's have markings 0-9 on them. Now we know that 0 = 10 when rolling for things like damage and such (you don't get 0 when you roll a 0). This is because they try to keep the number of digits the same on each side to help balance it out. Another way to think of this is modular arithmetic. You are using a mod 10 arithmetic which means each multiple of 10 ~ 0. So going the other way, if you get a 0, it is like you getting a 10 since they are equivalent. Now for percentage, for the most part (01-99) you should just be reading the numbers. If you roll a 20 and a 5 that is 25 (20+5). If you roll a 20 and a 0 that is 20 (20+0). So if you roll 00 and 3 that is 3 (00+3). The only exception to this is when you roll a 00 and a 0, this is 100 not 0. The reason is simple, we want to get numbers from 1-100 not numbers from 0-99. Thus if you roll a 0 (00+0) we say that is equivalent to 100 (100 modular arithmetic). So when rolling percent dice, just read the dice, except in the case of 00+0 which is 100. With that in mind you will clearly get numbers from 1-100 and not numbers 0-99 (though these are equivalent). |

The probability of each value is the same is what I meant. The probability of rolling a 0 using 0-99 = 1%, the probability of rolling a 100 using 1-100 = 1%. The probabilities are the same. |
| DarkNick03-21-07, 05:47 PM | I've always rolled a d10 and a d20 for percentile. The d10 is the 10's and the d20 is the single number dice (though you only look at the last number i.e. a 12 = 2, a 10 and a 20 equals a 0). Amounts to the same thing as rolling two d10. For some reason I don't like the percentile d10's with the double enumbers on them. They just bug me. Not sure if everyone was clear enough about how it works. Basically the dice that has 00-90 is the tens dice. The 0-9 dice is the single digit dice. you just add the numbers together, so if you roll 80 and 7 then you get 87. If you rolled 00 and 7 you would have 7. If you rolled 80 and 0 then you would have 80. But if you rolled 00 and 0 you get 100! You can use any old d10 too - just nominate one dice as the 10's. I happen to use a d20 as the second dice as it helps differentiate it from the first. |

If you have those Tens dice (a d10 with single digits and a d10 with tens digits): 00 + 0 = 100 00 + 1 = 1 Any other numbers (for example): 90 + 3 = 93 OR... you could invest in a d100 and wait for it to stop (it's practically a golf ball with nubs). |
