| TheNegaDruid10-09-05, 05:39 AM | Okay. :D Now, the MAIN thing I have to say about this movie which aired tonight on the SciFi channel was that I did enjoy it. It had serious geekness to it. Paragons including a Robe of Eyes to a Gem or True Seeing... to a Level 10+ Raging Barbarian and an at LEAST Level 14 Elf Mage mowing down a legion of level 1 Warriors. But, the main factor of interest I had and am curious on was the Lich in it. I didn't catch his name when it was mentioned, but I get a LOT of subtle hints. Such as these: Four Armed Gargoyles. Experimentation with the Disintegration Spell.(Read: To remove specific limbs) Completely and totally manipulative for his own amusement. ...Was this a subtle nod to Acererak of The Tomb of Horrors? Did they mean to imply that this WAS Acererak before he became a Demilich and was still just a Cambion Lich and before he built his tomb? I am highly curious. He isn't mentioned in the credits at all, but besides Damodar who returns and DOES kick butt, he is like the coolest part of the movie. Does anyone have any further information on this subject? |

I think he called himsef Klexx the Malign...and I agree he is the best villain in the movie by far. :) |

| Rotipher10-09-05, 03:25 PM | While I doubt that lich *was* Acererak -- he's in the wrong setting for one thing; Ismeer was made up strictly for the films, it's not a part of Greyhawk at all -- the four-armed gargoyle probably was a Tomb Of Horrors in-joke. Well spotted! :-) Anyone tried to compile a list of the movie characters' spells yet? Here are a few for Klexx the Lich: Spider Climb (climbing head-first down the tree) Persistent Image (probably what he used to create the "trapped cleric") Shapechange (since Polymorph can't change undead into living creatures; used to become the gargoyle-thing and to impersonate the Council wizard) I'm sure there were loads of other spells, but those are the three I recall off the top of my head. Oh, and did anyone else catch the Hallucinatory Terrain spell the elf used to hide her island home from intruders, as she left on the boat? Subtle but classic! I think they made a point to use spells that have a long history in the game, BTW, that even us "old fogeys" can recall from the original 1E PHB. |
