The reason I am asking is someone told me you need minis for 3.5

3.5 is newer and all the new supplementary books will be made for it, so I'd buy it. But other opinions probably exist, so if you can, you might want to compare the two versions somewhere. And the internet is also full of reviews, perhaps they'll be of some use in the decision making process.
