And no, it's not Vampire D (a few people I know suggested that). Good Karma goes to the first helpful soul who can point me in the correct direction... |

| HappyDragon08-17-05, 07:13 PM | The iconic DnD anime is indeed Record of the Loduss Wars. However be sure to get the original OVAs from the 80's as the TV series that is kind of a sequal to the OVA that was released in the late 90's was absolutely horrible. (except for a very cool opening theme song and and intro that is). The original is quite good though and the similarities to DnD will be very obvious. Other DnD esque anime include Slayers, (VERY tongue & cheek but relatively amusing), and Bezerk.....haven't seen the latter but have heard good things about it. |

Actually the TV series done in the late 90s was AWESOME!!! However, if viewed in English, it was AWEFUL. If you watch it, be sure to watch it in the original Japanese. The English actors seemed to talk in a monotone or just, basically terrible voice acting. In addition, many watched the end cartoon which doesn't really fit in. It was more of an addition like where commercial breaks could have been. So one could skip over those, but they are rather humorous if watched, in a more anime fan type way. However, the TV series IS ALSO awesome...BUT if watched in English due to how they translated it and the voice acting, is somewhat deplorable and almost unbearable. It surprising how much voice acting can affect how good a show is. The TV show IS NOT a sequel. It is a TV show based on the books, and in many ways follows the books better (though it too deviates from the books in several locations I believe). In essence it's another take on the same story. Probably more enjoyed by those who were fans of the books, whilst the OVA is more liked by those who didn't read the books I'd imagine. |
