| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll01-17-06, 05:36 AM | So are there different worlds in D&D? Is Ebberion seperate from the normal world or can I walk to it? In a matter of speaking. |
| SnowbearK01-17-06, 05:37 AM | Best to think of them as completely seperate "dimensions" so to speak. The idea of them as seperate planets also works. |
| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll01-17-06, 05:42 AM | Ah...okay. Thanks for that. So how would I get there? |
| SnowbearK01-17-06, 05:44 AM | Are you seriously asking how you would get "there" (presumably Eberron) from here, the real world? Or are you asking how your character would travel between worlds, say, from Toril or Oerth to Eberron? Former: Stop playing, go see shrink. Latter: Ask your DM nicely, usually will involve some planar travel. |
| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll01-17-06, 05:48 AM | No! (laughs out loud.) Of course not! I meant is there a special way to get there for my CHARACTER! |
| SnowbearK01-17-06, 06:00 AM | Just checking. Yeah, you'd have to ask your DM. Personally, I prefer to simply "write in" the character into the history of the current world. For instance, if a Player were to ask me if they could bring their Red Wizard of Thay into an Eberron game, I might say sure, but you're not from thay. You're from Karnath, part of an order of mages call the Magenta Masters or some such thing, the character is still essentially the same, but is now more suitable to adventuring in Eberron. |
| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll01-17-06, 06:02 AM | Oh neat idea. Thanks. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast01-17-06, 06:02 AM | No! (laughs out loud.) Of course not! I meant is there a special way to get there for my CHARACTER! There is no official way to reach Eberron from Toril or Oerth because it does not have the same Great Wheel cosmology. However, I believe it is suggested in the Manual of the Planes that the Plane of Shadow can be used to travel between worlds, that that could work. It's that, or buy a spelljammer (spaceship, essentially) :) |
| The White Sorcerer01-17-06, 06:57 AM | So how would I get there? 1st: Your character would have to know that Eberron even exists (not likely). 2nd: Your character would have to find a way to enter Eberron from whatever world he currently inhabits (not easy). 3rd: Your DM would actually have to want to run a game in Eberron (up to the DM). 4th: This all assumes that Eberron exists along with whatever world you're currently in. If your DM wants to run an Eberron game, save yourself a ton of hassle and create a new character. |
| Deacon Liadon01-17-06, 06:59 AM | There're two ways of gettin' from one dimension to another The first is the cage, Sigil, the city of doors. It's presence borders on every world be it Toril, Oerth, or Ebberron. The second lies through the plane of shadow. Be warned cutter, these places are dangerous and not for the faint of heart. (for more information visit the planescape boards or planewalker.com) |
| Angelus_the_white_Gnoll01-18-06, 04:18 AM | As we never actually decided where we were then we might just start in Eberrion...(We just fooled around and played a little intro game getting used to the system for the new people, ie:me.) Because I have the Skarn book nd I want to set up shop there. Purely because I feel like it. (What?) |
| The White Sorcerer01-18-06, 07:33 AM | As we never actually decided where we were then we might just start in Eberrion... Excellent. In that case, you won't need to worry about how your character got to Eberron. He was born there. |

| Drowbane01-18-06, 08:23 AM | I didn't think you could get to Eberron from Sigil (though you could go from Toril to Oerth that way). pfft, you can get to *anywhere* from Sigil :P (subject to DM's whim, of course. hehe) Getting back can be problematic however.... |
| Nom01-18-06, 04:52 PM | Ultimately, the question is roughly equivalent to "How do I get from Middle Earth (Tolkien) to Midkemia (Feist's riftwar)?", except I don't think those books are published by the same publishing company. There is no official D&D "meta-world". Each campaign setting exists independently of the others. For that matter, the Eberron "world" doesn't really support a meta-world concept very well - it would be like Captain Kirk turning up in the middle of an Indiana Jones movie. |
| Jaek01-18-06, 05:17 PM | Get yourself a 9th level cleric or barring that a 13th level wizard/sorcerer. Plane Shift... You move yourself or some other creature to another plane of existence or alternate dimension. It's just that easy. Although granted for this method to work you need a focus keyed to the given plane or dimension. |
| serghand01-18-06, 06:56 PM | destroy the space ship theory, because that doesn't make sense. The material plane ecompenses all of the planets, with the planes as basiccaly another dimension, every planet therefore has the same planes. besides i think MFs used to have a multi-planet-planar empire before being sent back in time. I think that theoritcally if you went for enough through the astral plane you could reach it, as the astral plane continues infintly I belevie shadow plane doesn't make sense, for it is like the material plane but shadowy. |

The material plane is only ONE of them planes. Its why we refer to the PRIME material plane, because there are many such material planes. And yes, the space ship thing is not theory, its D&D canon. Its called Spelljammers. Each setting is encompassed by a crystal sphere, and floats in a smokey gel like substance known as the ether. You can spelljam (aka, get on a magical craft and fly) to another setting and enter it's crystal sphere. However, Eberron is not part of the Great Wheel. Essentially, it is totally cut off from the rest of the game. You cannot get into Eberron from other settings, and you cannot leave Eberron for other settings. Thank Gygax! |
