Ok. I assume that english is not your first language, and that's the reason your post sounds a little brusque. Unfortunantely, the title of your post seems to be saying "people who play D&D are babies", and that is why some of the replies have been unhelpfull. If you had named the thread "Hybrids of demi-human races", peoplw ould know what you mean. But if you knew enough about D&D to put your question like that, you wouldn't have needed to ask it.

D&D is played in a group (usually). One person will be the "Dungeon Master", or "DM", and the rest are "Players". In english, this word has a couple of meanings: they are players in the sense of "playing a game", and players in the sense of "playing a theatrical role". Actors.

The game involves the group acting out an improvised story. In the story are usually many Characters (in the sense that a theatrical play has characters). The protagonists - the "hero" characters - are played by the players and are called "Player Characters", or PCs. The the antagonists (the villains) and any background supporting cast are all played by the DM, and are called "Non-player characters", or NPCs.

Thus: a player is a human being playing a game, a character is a fictional person in the game.

Now: in D&D, your character cannot do just anything (although there are other role-playing games like that). There are rules. Books and books of detailed rules, and new ones every month, covering everything from casting magic spells to whether or not your character is able to jump a 5-foot gap. So the query on the other thread was: by the rules, what race (race is a technical term in D&D, meaning more like "species") would the offspring of a half-orc and a half-elf be? Yes, in the real world diffrent species cannot breed - but we are talking about a fantasy fictional world.

The problem is that half-elf and half-orc are races within the rules of D&D, but half-human-quarter-elf-quarter-orc isn't. On the one hand, you want your fictional world to be consistent. On the other, there's not point making up stuff so far outside the game rules that the game becomes impossible to play.

Hence the dilemma.

PS: Yes, you can make a character with a failing heart. The rules accommodate characters with a low Constitution score (Constitution is a technical term inside the D&D rules), and there are rules for adjusting characters that are aged.

I have to agree with one thing, the BoEF really sucks. It has no bearing on D&D whatsoever, at least no game I've seen...we've never roleplayed sex... you had it or you didn't.

No lie, Bwana. It goes on and on about what a terrible thing rape is, and yet has some extremely creepy ideas about what it's ok to do to someone with magical compulsion. Just read the section on alignments and sex - all the tops are women.

03-18-08, 10:12 PM I'm American and English is my only language suck at spelling though :(( reason the question is so abnormal written is i know next to nothing about D&D I just started researching about it this week and I'm poor so don't have an of money for books + scared to go to the game store and be the only young person playing the game

There are no official rules re. determining the stats and abilities of a baby in D&D. Any PC or NPC that is the offspring of 2 PCs or a PC and NPC, and for whom you need stats at some point, should be created using the normal character creation rules.
