D&D Basic Game? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-09-06, 11:37 AM Ok I bought the D&D Basic game years ago (the one with the Black Dragon on the front) and since then they released a Basic Game with a pack of Aberations (DnD minis) and now a "new" Basic Game?...

What is the difference in these and the one I have? Are the rules easier, the adventures better, etc etc?

I'm thinking about starting a night for kids my daughter's age (she's 11) and I'm curious as to which basic game would be best.

11-09-06, 11:43 AM I've heard that the new one is made in such a way as to get you to buy the player's kit, and the DM's kit. The older one is more self-contained, it's got enough to understand the game.

But maybe I'm thinking of something else.

D&D Player's Kit - Paperback, errata'd PHB, other stuff

D&D Basic Game #2 - Different mini adventure, different miniatures (including a Large blue dragon instead of a Medium black dragon), character sheets, dice, different dungeon tiles, etc.
