D&D Can Help Get Your Degree! [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-29-07, 05:08 PM lol. Well, not quite, but it's still a nice story to relate. It has actually become highly relevant in my religion class. Mainly in reference to its application to religion and subculture (in this case, online forums). I mean, in my years here I've seen five different troll bait threads involving "D&D = Satan" and this thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=898514) has quite a few gems as well. Like the person afraid to look at the PHB lest it kill her. It's just really relevant to a recent class reading involving the increasing fear of these "zealots" (for lack of a neutral term). As one poster had said, "People today are more afraid of you than us." It's just become so relevant to the class (and I've got the prof so engaged), that he's now interested in checking out the forums. He may even be expecting me to choose it as the topic for my next essay. So I figured I'd just share it with all of you. I made it relevant to academics.

Furthermore, my prof even said that the information I shared is relevant to the particular aspect he writes one. Plus it's personally interested to him, because he got involved with D&D during the height of the D&D-Satanism scare.

09-29-07, 09:15 PM You've probably already found this but their is a list of (academic) research and commentary on RPGs available here (http://www.rpgstudies.net/). Nothing more recent than 2002 it seems. Anyone know of a more up-to-date biblio?
