| Thumbtack01-05-05, 04:03 PM | If anyone would like to check out, I have posted my tiny, little comic strip called 'Goblins, life through their eyes'. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Here's the link... http://hometown.aol.com/thumbtackthedm/index.html |
| Kar-Vermin01-05-05, 04:19 PM | Hmmm.... Well, to be honest, it was a fairly long set-up for not much of a joke, which, frankly, I didn't really get. SPOILER ALERT!! If the goblins were charging the paladin, (as it certainly looked like they were), shouldn't HE get the AOO?) HOWEVER, your artwork is FANTASTIC! :D Your reaction shots are great, and your characters show real definition. I think you can definitely go places with this comic. As to exactly how to improve, sorry, I'm not good enough to help you either. Stay the course, though. This has oodles of potential! Happy Gaming. |
| Bluebrush01-05-05, 04:27 PM | If the paladin was standing up, the goblins would get AoOs by 3.5 rules. I loved "Dies horribly." ^_^ And the final joke took a moment to get, but was pretty good. |
| Escef01-05-05, 04:51 PM | <sigh> Figures. It's a very good start. Both the art and the comedy are a bit rough on the edges (the comedy moreso than the art), but overall very good. I'd consider submitting it to Dragon Magazine. |
| Phrennzy01-05-05, 05:28 PM | I liked it. Great art and pretty funny. I only made it to page 5 because I am at work, but up to that it was pretty good. |
| Ilium01-05-05, 05:31 PM | Excellent. Quality of both art and writing are above most of what I see on, for example, Keenspace (http://www.keenspace.com). If you're going to continue the strip you should consider using them. It's free and lots more people will see your work: |
| Kar-Vermin01-05-05, 06:36 PM | UPDATE! I didn't read the other pages before. MUCH better in the comedy department! Happy Gaming. |
| Thumbtack01-05-05, 08:00 PM | Hey, thanks so much for the praise and the constructive criticism! I actually wrote this strip during the reign of 3.0, so the 3.5 AOO rules don't apply. Which means that as much as I'd love to agree with Bluebrush and say "Yes... er... that's it! I was clearly using the 3.5 rules for AOOs at that time." I can't and still call myself an honest man. The truth is, I looked it over again and thought to myself "Hey, why ARE those goblins getting an AOO??". Maybe they're rogues and since they were flanking their poor victim, one of them got an AOO. Maybe it's because they snuck up on him. Hmmm. I'll have to be more careful in the future. And yes, the jokes were pretty corny. :D |
| Bluebrush01-05-05, 08:34 PM | Then maybe they just acted on a higher initiative than the paladin. |
| crazysamaritan01-05-05, 09:25 PM | or maybe he tried to run away? Provokes AoO. |
| Thumbtack01-05-05, 09:58 PM | Aha! Crazysamaritan is right! The paladin WAS actually running away at the time. He was also reading a book too. Plus he was terror stricken. Mystery solved. That was fun. Someone find another flaw in my strip lol. |

| Draco Strang01-06-05, 07:02 AM | Like others before me, I think this has potential. Your humor runs a little roughshod, taking a while to get anywhere, but I really did like some of the jokes in the last strip. Your characters need smaller bits of dialogue, for the most part, and you need your jokes to be punchy and quick. Keep it up. |
| Ilium01-06-05, 08:22 AM | I assumed the goblins got an AoO because he was running away. The book said to "pray or run" and he wasn't praying... :) Great stuff. Make sure to post here when you add more, ok? |
| Daniel _the_Zodiac01-06-05, 09:27 AM | Funny, I liked it. Though I must confess I thought that the main theme of it was going to be more of the lines of "Why do these thieves constantly invade our basements and steal our hard-earned valubles?", but I still liked the humor and thought it was very good. I'm interested in what you'll turn out next. :D |
| Ricky01-06-05, 10:09 AM | Dude, that comic made me laugh out loud! The whole naming thing was BRILLIANT! I'm going to use that the next time I run an adventure with goblins. :) |
| Joni-san01-06-05, 01:43 PM | That was really funny :). A diamond in the rough that needs some polishing :D "Dies Horribly" :D |
| The_Dark_One01-07-05, 12:17 AM | I love this. I am especially fond of "Dies Horribly". Could you make him into a main character? |
| Tevish Szat01-07-05, 12:57 AM | Yup, runaway provokes AoO. Comic is great. rock on. :ayyyy!:  :ayyyy!: |
| Thumbtack01-07-05, 02:36 AM | Wow. I just wanted to thank everyone again for the continuing input on my comic strip. I'm amazed that every critisism was thought out and intelligent and I didn't get a single "That sucks, dude! You're lame!". We gamers can be so cool sometimes. So I was going through my old notes and sketches and found some drawings of the continuing Goblins strip as well as the first version called "Kobolds, life through their eyes" (I think it's obvious what change I made to the comic). So since it seems to be pretty well received, I'm going to pump out a bunch more of it and keep all of the incredibly helpful advice in mind when I do. I'll most likely post it at Keenspace. I'll definately let you know as soon as it's up there. So I am deeply in your debt for giving me a shove in the 'make more and post it' direction. Thumbtack PS~ Does anyone know if any D&D players frequent Keenspace? Cause non gamers aren't too likely to get it. |
| tompulsar01-07-05, 02:59 AM | Pretty cool. Bump this thread next time you update :) |
| Pyre_8901-07-05, 04:41 AM | Yeah, it was pretty good. I like corny! And guys, even if the Paladin was allowed and AOO, it's a comic. It doesn't have to follow the rules of the game! I was even thinking of AOO's when I read it! Anyways, keep going, I'll add it to my webcomics list! :u:/:r: |
| Ilium01-07-05, 08:56 AM | PS~ Does anyone know if any D&D players frequent Keenspace? Cause non gamers aren't too likely to get it. There are lots of RPG-related comics on Keenspace. In fact if you look through their listings you'll see there's actually a "game related" category. I really think it's your best chance at getting an audience bigger than the people who have looked at this thread. :) |
| Ricky01-16-05, 01:43 PM | Thumbtack, do you have any planned updates? |
| Gilgiga of the Hunt01-16-05, 01:53 PM | Yeah Keenspace is the place to go. It's a great little comunity, and the site will look a lot better if you use on of their templates, easier to navigate too. As for the comic itself. I get the feeling I'm gonna enjoy this. |
