| The Vagrant05-09-04, 06:32 AM | (I did this on another site with great succses!) There are times when you commit such an act of disgrace in the name of D&D that you hide the truth from all. Now is when you can release these truths, here is where the negitive energy will be trapped. But in order for the negitive energy to be trapped, all of those who enter must leave with a completly clean slate. Everything you have done that is dispicable in the name of D&D must be placed here. Also what you, and others, leave here stays here. There is to be NO exeptions. You are not to refer to any passages in this hallowed thread, nor even the thread itself. Confesors are to speak only of themselves and their disgraces, not about their friends, or other confessors. Confessors are to not even mention other confessors posts in here. Confessors are to be truely themselves, and only that when posting. So no signitures may enter this thread. Confesors are not to make light of the situation. The acts of the individuals here are being confessed for a reason, laghing at it will not grant those that seek it that which is what they seek. This thread offers a clean slate in a safe, and secure place. --------- I have DMed for myself and got to 5th level. I did this in public too. I buy any video games that are D&D related, and pretend in my mind it's all real. I even buy games I know won't work on my computer, just to have them. I buy 3E D&D books whenever I have enough, I run my car on empty to have more money for books. I read my D&D books everyday, studying rules I have memorized. I have no one to play D&D with, and THAT is the 2nd most tragic thing in my life. I have created a thread online in an attempt to prove to myself I am not the only one. I watch the D&D movie simply because it's D&D. I am writing a D&D story because it's the closest I can come to playing D&D with out acually DMing for myself agian. I create char sheets that I never use as an excuse to look at my books. I have lied about making a char sheet of myself just to seem like a bigger D&D fan. I catagorize people into two groups: Those that would play D&D with me, and those that wouldn't. I act accordinly. I find it offending to see anyone but true hardcore D&D fanatics mention anything about D&D. |
| TheLeviathan05-09-04, 01:29 PM | I got offended by our DM not showing up to one of our weekend sessions because he wanted to spend time with his sick mother on mother's day. I'm kidding lol......you really need some help man. |

| AlexBurel05-09-04, 04:55 PM | I am secretly devising a plan to cause the eviseration of all those who condemn D&D as being evil, then making it the most common pastime in the world, greater than video games, computers, and television while replacing all mainstream religons with ones dedicated to the worship of Gary Gygax, Ed Greenwood, and skip williams. Oh, and see my sig. |
| Temmogen05-10-04, 04:01 PM | I confess to actually liking the D&D movie.(Thats all you'll get, my reasons are my own) I confess to stealing the idea for my homebrew from Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series I confess to having a character ascend to godhood for no other reason than I was bored. |
| airhead05-10-04, 04:36 PM | Originally posted by The Vagrant [B... Getting a $1 or two each night is more expensive (one extra stop/start - extra idle time, etc.) Not to mention that it is easier on your fuel pump when the tank is full. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My own confession: I nearly flunked a semester because I would rather play D&D or paint minis than go to class. I won't let a game (or anything else) take over that much of my life again. |
| elfnecro05-10-04, 04:39 PM | I have played a Tanis-Clone I have produced a severely unbalancing item just to watch my party kill themselves in greed. I have Deus Ex Machina'd more than previously thought humanly possible. |
| Angel_Azriel05-10-04, 04:47 PM | I, too, like the D&D movie, for what it's worth. I started liking a band, simply because of a reference to D&D paraphernalia. I got my brother hooked on D&D, against my parents' wishes. At work, I read D&D-related forums and comics. |
| DarkMaster05-10-04, 07:33 PM | I think about it. All the time. Even when I shouldn't. In fact, the only moments in my week that I'm not thinking about D&D is when I'm with my girlfriend. When I'm in classes, I'm developing my world, my characters, my stories, heck, I'm thinking about it. |

| zerpentor05-11-04, 12:05 PM | stupid, stupid thread... |
| aravilar_holistacia05-11-04, 12:09 PM | I confess that I once set an army of balors against my PCs and actually expected them to last more than five minutes.... |

I got my brother hooked on D&D, against my parents' wishes. At work, I read D&D-related forums and comics. What band, man? I've heard a Weezer song talking about "I've got a 12-sided die/ I've got a Dungeon Master's Guide." Not only am I a DM, but I'm also in a band myself, and I've thrown in some D&D references. I've recently been writing a lot of rap (we're by no means a rap-group or rap-metal band; more like rap&punk&jazz&metal) and let me tell ya, you've never seen a confused group of players until you have an NPC bard that performs rap. I'm boisterous but i don't like any shellfish in my dish i'm ****** off and helpless i help myself because i'm selfish like a DM who nerfs a level seventeen's elf's wish Ok, I'll stop now... |
| Sulaco05-11-04, 03:37 PM | My confessions... In addition to looking at things in context and for its own merits, I also look at most things in terms of how it can be applied to D&D. I too like the D&D movie, though I also realize it is total crap. I have spent a lot of time writing stuff for my D&D games. I have written D20 material professionaly. I aspire to a full-time job in the PRG industry. I got my wife into D&D. However, on the flipside... I do not have any trouble differentiating between D&D and real-life. I have blown off my D&D games to spend time with a girlfriend or family. I have given up D&D for real-life reasons in the past and would do so again if required. I got my wife into D&D so we could spend more time together. |
| Adrez Nesnsid05-11-04, 03:48 PM | I buy all of the D&D 3.0 and 3.5 rulebooks (Including the splatbooks and campaign settings) despite the fact that I don't actually have anybody to play the game with (and, the one time that I did get to play the session fell apart within the first couple of rounds of play, due to a combination of poor preparation on my part, and the fact that the friends who I had convinced to play the game all have attention deficit disorder (and so do I)). So mainly I just post ideas for new monsters and stuff on these message boards and sort of play the game vicariously through all of you guys. ------------------------------------- On a related note Originally posted by OD&D fan Originally posted by The Vagrant I have DMed for myself and got to 5th level. I did this in public too. Has anyone else done this? How do you DM yourself? I've done this, sort of... I was actually trying to playtest a new monster (Well, technically a more powered up version of an old monster) in a combat situation, but, as I said before, I don't have any players, so I had to play both sides of the combat by myself. |
| Bacon and Eggs05-11-04, 04:01 PM | I hang out at D&D message boards and like to watch some of the more passionate debates spring up about the most contrived situations in the game. |
| OD&D fan05-11-04, 04:48 PM | Here is something I just remembered. You guys think your D&D sins are bad? Try and beat this: I confess that when I was a kid and my characters died, I would bury the character sheet in my back yard and make a gravestone (out of card), write an inscription on the "gravestone" to honour the character, and mark out a grave for my character. I think I was about 11 or 12. :-P |
| kimbyrle05-11-04, 05:26 PM | Bless me, Bahamut, for I have sinned. It has been... uh... a looooooong time since my last confession. I have written short stories out of the campaigns I've played in. I have written short stories with the characters that didn't actually happen in the campaign. I have spent massive amounts of time in MUDs because it was the closest thing to D&D available. I have developed crushes on guys because I liked their character. I have spent entire days, that should have been spent working or doing homework, writing character histories. I have downloaded sourcebooks in pdf format because I couldn't afford them, then purchased them anyway because I had that much loyalty to the game. I have memorized latin words to use for casting divine spells, and the greek character set to substitute for the roman character set so I could write things that looked "arcane." I have written Raistlin fanfic. Although I never went as far as to let anyone else read it. :embarrass I have taken up yet another bad habit by starting to play the Miniatures game, and will undoubtedly spend money I shouldn't on acquiring more of it. I have debated game mechanics, told D&D stories to people who wouldn't get it, perpetuated silly in-game jokes, and memorized sections of the Summoner D&D movie. (You know, the one with "Roll to see if I'm getting drunk!") And worst of all, I have taken up residency on a message board devoted to this game. |
| Angel_Azriel05-11-04, 05:30 PM | The band? Luca Turilli. I did a search for elves on Kazaa (a confession in and of itself?), and something called, "The Ancient Forest of Elves" came back. I downloaded it, and loved it. So I started downloading more. Finally, I got the stuff on CD, since it was that good. |
| Nived05-11-04, 06:04 PM | When watching a film in Cultural Anthropology on Stne Tool making I dozed off and had a dream about a kick ass druid I later made into a character. I jot down homebrew magic item stats in the margins of my notebook when I should be taking Astronomy notes. When I'm readying a session before I DM I haven't planned a session well enough untill I either cackle evily, or laugh maniacly... though when I'm really tired a forboding chuckle will do. I can quote the Dead Alewives by heart.... both skits. I LIKE Kender. |
| GreyLord05-11-04, 07:30 PM | Don't see any wrong items or anything bad that anyone is doing (oh, well, maybe a few that seem rather disturbing but overall, most of the items in this thread is not bad). Playing the game, even with yourself, is not a bad thing. Playing characters fashioned after book characters, or other items is not bad. Having a crush on players because of their characters...okay, I admit that disturbs me. However you play, as long as you are having fun and enjoying it (and not harming anyone or anything in the real world obviously) is the right way to play for you...and you need not be absolved of anything. On the otherhand, the guy who got crushes because of other people's characters...erm...Someone will have to think up some sort of really good penance for you. |
| Yipwyg the Mighty05-11-04, 07:32 PM | I spend every penny I get on new supplements for D&D, ones which I will never use: I do it simply to get new D&D stuff. I use my free-time to make new characters. I spend entire days thinking about D&D. I have written out stats for my entire family, and my classroom. All I talk about, if I make sure no to, is related to D&D. I've gotten into fights, and alienated close friends, over D&D. |
| red_queen05-11-04, 07:39 PM | i am on this board...replying to this subject...when i should be studying for my lit provincial exam. i've tried to meet guys through dnd (no offence to anyone...but what the hell was i thinking. see sig for the results) i want to see the dnd movie (from what i hear, this si a very bad thing) |

She's dying to play but the DM let my girlfriends sister play in a game once (she happens to be his girlfriend) and it didn't end too well. I've made 20th level characters just for the hell of it. I think about it at work, school, anywhere. Hey, could this be the reason that our parents are afraid of us playing D&D? They know we'll get mobidly obsessed with it. |
| kimbyrle05-11-04, 11:35 PM | Originally posted by GreyLord On the otherhand, the guy who got crushes because of other people's characters...erm...Someone will have to think up some sort of really good penance for you. Guy???? *checks* Yep... still a girl. :P |
| Murr-Quan Lord #205-11-04, 11:57 PM | Confessions! I confess that I've invited abusive players back before, so I would have people to play with. Although one is my brother, and I kind of wanted to have this family togetherness thing going here. *sweatdrop* I've set aside time that should've been spent writing fantasy novels in designing scenarios that never were played ... And I have a Lawful Good persona in the Planescape campaign setting, which is one of the most cynical places that I've ever seen. This one I'd not have any other way, though. Originally posted by kimbyrle Bless me, Bahamut, for I have sinned. You are forgiven. ^.^ |
| MonkeyPaladin05-12-04, 12:16 AM | I have had arguments over which mythological gods would win in a fight, and brought out Deities and Demigods to prove my point. To date this is the only use I have ever found for that book. When I was young, the basic D&D set had a "choose your own adventure with dice" part to it. I put myself through it on several occasions. I have used game based terminology to describe real world events. "Looks like he rolled a one to kick that field goal" and similiar things. Worse still, my friends thought it was funny. There have been women that I did not find attractive, but then they mentioned that they played, and then I started fantasizing about them. I have had discussions about what class people would be, what alignment, what their stats would be and so on. When filling out my work availability, I have decreased my chances of getting a job by leaving out Sunday, because that's game day. When I saw the D&D movie I wasn't mad because of the poor acting and writing, but because they got dragons and beholders wrong. I bought a hundred sided die. It's not accurate, it's too big for my dice bag, and it was expensive, but I had to have it because it was cool. I have walked out on jobs, but expect notice if someone can't make it to a D&D game. |
| nytemare6605-12-04, 01:20 AM | My own confession...I try to relate a lot of stuff to D&D and think about it constantly. I'm an official addict. My worst confession would be that I did think about a couple times what it would be like to live in a world like D&D. I've also placed classes and races upon friends. One friend would be a selfish, elven merchant. I swear he would be a merchant...or maybe a rogue.Naw too big for a rogue. Maybe a sorceror with some business sense. Ok enough rambling. |
| Sulaco05-12-04, 10:41 AM | Originally posted by red_queen i've tried to meet guys through dnd (no offence to anyone...but what the hell was i thinking. see sig for the results) Keep trying. Not all D&D playing guys are total brainless, mysogynist idiots. |
| Big Dawg05-12-04, 11:55 AM | Posted by Red Queen: i've tried to meet guys through dnd (no offence to anyone...but what the hell was i thinking. see sig for the results) LOL, well now that's something I never thought I'd hear. A girl trying to pick up guys through D&D. I truely hope you were not really raped. You'll find someone. Keep looking, but don't try to hard or go looking for it all the time. And don't get down if it doesn't work out. I have a feeling your're trying to hard. Just relax, be yourself, and let them find you. Trust me on this OK, I can't bleed for 5 days and still live ;) BTW: I confess to nothing :smirk: |
